Dark souls doesn't really have a villain though. Gwyn is just there consumed and burnt out. If anything Seath is the villain, he's actively meddling in the world of darksouls.

Manus
Idk, isn't there a lot to say that he was being fucked with by oolacile, and this twisted into the form he is now via (speculation) magical experimentation? I feel like Gough says something of that nature. I'd think that maybe makes the citizens of oolacile who participated in that the villain(s).
And Seath, like the other commenter said. If only for kidnapping and experimenting on maidens.
But they themselves were manipulated by Kaathe to open his tomb. So is Kaathe the villain?
I think there's an argument to be made there, yeah. He's a shady motherfucker
Fair, but I feel like a villain needs a devious plan. Manus is just the embodiment of darkness
He was more like this force of nature. I think the true villain in Dark Souls is everyone thinks they will be different, they will be the ones who push the Dark back forever, and they never are.
That's a very cool point ds2 made. You start as a cursed one that just wants to get cured and you end by entering the throne and relinking the fire to restart the cycle of the curse
Abyss Daddy!!
I've played most From games, with the notable exception of Sekiro. That guy is the only thing I ever parried.
I've played them all and might be the worst parry-er on earth. I can also parry Gwyn.
God I love parrying in the first dark souls, it's so intuitive and easy. It's just not the same in later titles, even using the buckler.
Really? Starting ds1 after sekiro, the parry feels really clunky to me.
Oh yeah compared to Sekiro it's not that great but in DS2 and 3 it's so much worse (imo)
What did they change? I don't think I even equipped a shield in any other game than Dark Souls.
Sekiro is one of my favorites I highly recommend it. Probably also one of the hardest but I eventually got the platinum trophy.
I want to play it, I'm just saving it for last since I've heard so many times about Sekiro being the best, the hardest and the only game that feels like your first Soulsborneringwhatever again. I missed a lot of From games due to not being able to afford a console/gaming pc and only got back into them with Elden Ring. Since then I've been slowly playing all the ones I missed and some similar games like Nioh.
I was pretty late to sekiro and dark souls 3 too . Didn't get the platinum trophy for dark souls 3 yet .
After trying (and failed) in DS1 tutorial, I've never even try it again
I know they ran out of time and rushed the last part of the game, but what were they thinking making the final boss parryable and easily so!?
My take is that, at that point, Gwyn is almost consumed and fights like an animal, so no finesse or technique there.
Interesting take, but he does have technique and finesse in that fight... He'll even grab you! Yet also mindless aggression. Makes me think of Bane's quote: "You fight like a younger man, with nothing held back. It's admirable, but mistaken."
Yep, my going theory was that Gwyn is a burnt out husk of what he once was, the merest shadow of himself.
