Now everyone in the industry will want to work for this airline so they will be able to hire from a much bigger (and better?) pool of applicants.

Cue the other airlines: "Nobody wants to work anymore!"

Indeed, unions don't just help your company, they help workers across the industry as they force every competing company to improve conditions to keep workers.

I used to have money in airline stock, and Southwest is a solid company. I seem to remember they had a better debt to income ratio than any other airline.

Unions don't work at all, that's totally unrelated as to why they fight so hard to keep them from forming and gaining power!
