Have always heard how this game has apparently one of the friendliest and most mature communities.

I don't play anymore, but it definitely is (was?).

The community acknowledge that in order for it to survive, new players need to join, so new players need to feel welcome. There isn't a hyper-competitive need for any individual player to be the best on paper, and perfect gear/builds are not a requirement to join groups.
