Workers of Anchor Brewing have met, discussed, and decided to launch an effort to purchase the brewery and run it as a worker co-op!

Super exciting for the workers and the brewery! I was really sad when I heard that they would be closing their doors after so long...really happy about these turn of events!

I love this. I think someone in SF was interested in buying it and was finding other investors to join him. But I think letting the workers own it would be the best outcome.

There are several interested parties that have reached out to Saporro (current owner).

source: I live in the area and follow local news.

There is some good precedent for this including Harpoon Brewery

Also Left Hand and New Belgium amoung a few others:

Better to support them than Inbev or Sapporo

I started drinking more New Belgium after I learned that tidbit. Their Asheville brewery is phenomenal and you can really see the passion they put into it. Even their Fruit Smash seltzers are tasty!

I don't see how that helps employees purchase the company. If anything, it would raise the value of the company, making the current owner either hold on to it or raise the asking price.

yet another step towards socialism!

Slick. I'd love to get a few bottles of the new stuff once it comes off the line.
