Oh no guess I'll have to continue to not pay for it.

Revanced for mobile Android.

Smart Tube Next for Android TV.

Sponsorblock, adblocker and return dislikes for desktop browser.

For iOS you have some sideloading options, for Apple TV I'm not sure.

Vinegar on iOS.

Man I'm really going to miss still not paying for YT Premium.

Vinegar for iOS and NewPipe for Android to the rescue.

Wonder when they'll go after the legacy subscriptions. Mine's still the $9.99 individual plan from Google Play Music days and it's evolution. I haven't seen anything yet and hopefully won't for a while longer. Although, it's just a matter of time sadly; gotta get those increased profits.

Google Play Music days and it’s evolution.

I take offense to to this phrasing, as it implies GPM grew and improved. It didn't evolve; it died and was replaced by an inferior product.

Oh I agree and probably should've said that. YT Music is still inferior compared to it. Only upside that I like is that I'm able to upload my own music into it. Instead of having to use my CDs for things that aren't on a streaming services.

I wound up moving entirely to Plex and it's janky Tidal integration because of that use case. Too much local/obscure music out there to not be able to add my own tracks.

We get 3 months at our current rate and then they're bumping us up to this new price.

"Existing subscribers will start to see the new pricing with their next billing cycle. An upcoming email will explain the changes. Those who were grandfathered in five years ago (with Google Play Music and/or YouTube Red) will get three additional months at their current rate."

Same here, but I'm locked in at $7.99

[–] billothekid2@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm still at 7.99! If they increase it to 14 bucks, that's gonna hurt.

[–] blaine@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Same here. I think I'll just cancel and install SmartTube on all of my Chromecasts.

[–] FiendishFork@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Make sure you stay on top of keeping your card updated, I was on the intro price for family plan for years but got a replacement card and forgot to update Google and had to re subscribe at the regular rate.

[–] Megaman_EXE@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

That's kind of crazy. It was already pretty expensive

[–] falinter@midwest.social 5 points 1 year ago

its like $2 in some territories and even thats almost not worth it. $14 is definitely not worth it

Okay I'll bite. I pay for YouTube Premium and likely will continue to. I rarely watch it on my phone or on a computer, about 95% of my viewing is on a chromecast with android tv or directly from tizen on my samsung tv; so besides some now defunct sideloaded apks on the chromecast, I'm stuck with the native app. And overall yt accounts for about 75-80% of my households streaming on a tv.

I hate ads enough to hand google my money directly. And then part (most, according to google at least) of that goes to the creators that we watch. I think it's a fair enough trade, but happy to hear conflicting opinions!

By all means, you do you...but if I were watching that much yt, I'd probably want to upgrade to a Shield or something else I could slap
SmartTube on and stop the recurring/increasing payments.

[–] nevernevermore@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Nvidia shield is bizarrely expensive in my country. Like 50% more expensive than the most expensive Apple TV 4K. Also the method you describe means creators don’t get a cent either. But definitely worth looking into smarttube if I can support creators directly, thanks.

It's always worth to take a look at revanced: https://revanced.net/
