Sometimes, in a split second I get this kind of sadness when I see something.

I saw a guy with his son and he was showing him how to fill the car with petrol.

Nothing special. Unless you've never really had a father. Then you think about all the other stuff you had to learn by yourself; like shaving, driving, finding your first job and hundreds of other small things you don't normally think about.

I suppose there's pride in having navigated from age 14 till 41 by yourself. But it's a poor 2nd place prize.

Sorry for the downer.

I feel this so, so hard. I can usually ignore things in real life, but I don't watch family movies or shows very much because they make me feel the same way, and if I ever do something or have an experience that feels like my idea of normalcy I end up in a euphoric like state for a few hours before crashing really hard and ending up really sad for the next few days

I think you deserve all the hugs in the world for having to feel that way πŸ«‚ That's heartbreaking. I know you can't do anything about how it all is and you're unbelievably bright and level-headed and observant for all you've been through, but I hope so much you do find your own family when you become independent and get some of those happy family vibes in your real life. The physical feeling of belonging and security is absolutely unmatched. May you get to experience that for real with good people who will be there for you :D

so many super hugs

I get that feeling from "normalcy" too, then I see the dysfunctional fam and have to tone down my normal.

I felt this with some of the dads at my old workplace. Hearing them having to leave on time to go watch a game or going to a 9 day fortnight so they could spend more time with their kids. I kinda teared up for a bit thinking about how my dad never bothered. If he picked me up he was often late and I once spent 90 minutes waiting on the kerb (in the day before mobiles). The only time he ever came for an accomplishment of mine - the highest one I ever had - he made it all about himself and was a total embarrassment.

It must hit a lot harder as a man. Hugs

Got my flu shot yesterday and feeling a bit meh today. Generally I have little to no side effects, but this one has managed to kick my arse slightly.

Get your flu shots anyway people!!

My new passport arrived today. Pretty impressive turnaround, I only put the application in on Friday. Definitely a huge improvement on the post-Covid backlog days.

Ugh I feel like I heard somebody walking around on the deck at the front door. I'm not home alone, but the roommate is asleep. It's probably just possums on the roof, but it definitely felt like somebody on the verandah. I know that it's probably nothing and to put my mind at rest I should flick the light on and have a peek out the window, but I really don't want to. The conundrums of being an independent mini human :/

OCD chillo sorting achieved.

I am very interested in the small mid right ones. The cultivar is old, no longer common, sweet and fuckn' hawt:

Gawd I'm starting to sound crazy.

I like that the chopping board and the colander tone in with all the glorious red. It all looks amazing.

Is it Hot Take Thursday? I think it is. Anyway my hot take is: Milo is not that great. It's ok on ice cream or the occasional hot drink but it's pretty bland.

[–] Diffuser5593@aussie.zone 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You've just gotta put 10 tablespoons in and then layer it on top of the milk so it's all crunchy.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 7 months ago

I think NestlΓ© deliberately made Milo Hydrophobic so you're compelled to add more thus buying more.

Most children under 5 should be leashed

That everyone as well as kids <5 need ankle bracelets that deliver an electric current when they're not walking on the left of footpaths.

Nothing crazy.. maybe 220,000 volts or so.

Depends how much Milo is used. Needs half a cup of Milo powder to get any taste. I don’t buy it any more. Too $$$$$$

Tonight tackling the pile.

Seed collection, making flakes/dust, fermenting and trying not to rub eyes or no no bits

Only fermenting the really little ones as they're unique for some reason and I need to see what happens.

But.. planning on collecting a lot of the seeds, so if anyone wants any, lemmy know if you Want it (they last for years).

Which brings us to today's rave choon:

Miss Meow says it is definitely dinner time right now and is claiming my explanation about changing clocks to be an unfounded conspiracy theory.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

My phone screen contrast is low due to being in night mode and MissMeow looks rather creepy and eyeless... truly like staring into the void.

Enjoy.

My apologies Miss Meow, but it had to be done!

Miss Meow has seen the photo additions and is not impressed. She has requested to look scary with big teeth instead.

Online friend group drama has gone full batshit and is affecting my own mental health. Time to log off and just try and take a break from there. :/

Clouds are clearing in Gippsland, this is good as I didn't want to inspect a car in the rain. Please let this be a decent one, I hate car shopping so much.

I hear you re car shopping. I’m going to have to do that soon, too. Good luck! 🀞🏻

Got my new shoes, got my haircut and saw my doctor. Time to go home and relax.

Fairly productive day all things considered.

[–] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 7 points 7 months ago

I’m going to get my roast veg in the oven, and then I’m going to have a luxurious hot shower followed by cozy jim jams

Who wants tomorrows thread - friday April 12, 2024?

[–] Nath@aussie.zone 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'll make it if I look in later and it doesn't exist. It's only 10pm my time.

The kiwi daily thread is just "anyone make the thread if it doesn't exist yet" - seems to work fine.

I'm dusty and frazzled from my unexpectedly hyper extended trip thanks to trespassers on the track and my overall confusion around inspecting a car and trying to decide what can slide and what's risky. I get different answers from different people about how important documented logbook servicing is.

Folks with a working class background tell me it's not everything if it clears a pre purchase inspection and drives ok, and won't impact resale value that much, plenty of people just get their mates to do the servicing and it's turned out fine. Everyone else is like no way... rather even take a similar car with some aesthetic panel damage if it's got a solid logbook.

My bin doesn't make clink clink clinkity clink any more. I miss saying "that's my bin" when the truck goes past.
