Don’t You Know Who I Am?

3800 readers
1 users here now

Posts of people not realising the person they’re talking to, is the person they’re talking about.

Acceptable examples include:

Discussions on any topic are encouraged but arguements are not welcome in this community. Participate in good faith - don’t be aggressive and don’t argue for arguments sake.

The posts here are not original content, the poster is not OP and doesn’t necessarily agree with or condone the views in the post. The poster is not looking to argue with you about the content in the post.

Rules:

This community follows the rules of the lemmy.world instance and the lemmy.org code of conduct. I’ve summarised them here:

  1. Be civil, remember the human.
  2. No insulting or harassing other members. That includes name calling.
  3. Censor any identifying info of private individuals in the posts. This includes surnames and social media handles.
  4. Respect differences of opinion. Civil discussion/debate is fine, arguing is not. Criticise ideas, not people.
  5. Keep unrequested/unstructured critique to a minimum. If you wish to discuss how this community is run please comment on the stickied post so all meta conversations are in one place.
  6. Remember we have all chosen to be here voluntarily. Respect the spent time and effort people have spent creating posts in order to share something they find amusing with you.
  7. Swearing in general is fine, swearing to insult another commenter isn’t.
  8. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia or any other type of bigotry.
  9. No incitement of violence or promotion of violent ideologies.

Please report comments that break site or community rules to the mods. If you break the rules you’ll receive one warning before being banned from this community.

MODERATORS

Hi! I’m your mod, SomeoneElse. There’s been a big influx of subscribers over the last week or two so I thought I’d say hello. I missed r/DontYouKnowWhoIAm after I left Reddit so created this community. So far I’ve been the main contributor, reposting the best of the Reddit sub to get things going. Anyone is welcome to contribute original or appropriated content from any source as long as it follows the guidelines (in the sidebar). Text post about personal experiences are also welcome.

I’m pleased to say there hasn’t been any real modding to do yet, which is a relief because I’m winging it! Everyone’s followed the rules and discussions have been largely respectful and interesting. Thank you to everyone who’s contributed. My hope for this community is that it continues with a Lemmy feel and doesn’t turn into a Reddit 2.0. To that end I just wanted to emphasise the two main rules; don’t be a dick to others, and no bigotry of any kind. Please report any comments/users that break those rules.

It’s likely that I’ll need help modding this community if it continues to grow at its current pace, so if you’re interested, drop me a message. Having previous moderator experience and living in a different time zone from me (Europe, BST) would be ideal but it’s not a must by any means.

I’m open to all suggestions on how this community is run including adding or refining community rules, and feedback on how hands on or off you’d like the moderating team to be. Feel free to message me or comment below.

It’s good to have you here 😊

For the sake of complete transparency, I’ve created an alt account on a different instance and made that account a moderator. The attacks on larger instances and the downtime that causes makes it hard to moderate this sub properly. I’m the same person: SomeoneElse@lemmy.world and Someone@feddit.uk

You're doing good work, man. I miss a kot of subreddits but I'll never go back purely on principle... and spite.

Thank you, I appreciate it!
