KeepassDX. Is it a dead project? (raw.githubusercontent.com)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by FarLine99@lemm.ee to c/privacy@lemmy.ml

I really like using KeepassXC on a computer. On Android, I found KeepassDX to be the best client. But the last commit was from March and it confuses me. Do you think the project was abandoned or just a person took a break from development?

The last commit was made March this year (2023) right?.... That's fairly recent at least by the standard of open source software. Also if the app runs, why bother?...

P.S. Btw if you check the develop branch, the most recent commits were made last month.

Oh, different branches. I forgot 🀦 Latest commit one week ago in Material You branch so everything is good. Thank you for answer. I am happier now πŸ˜ƒ

I've just checked the last commit for an active branch was last week, the last merge to the main branch was in march, this was just before their latest release.

Looks like it's still actively being look after, but even if it didn't have recent commits it's open source and It's not unusual for people to take time to work on things.

Thank you! I forgot about different branches. Stupid I 😁

One thing that Lemmy and Reddit seems to have in common is the mysterious reasons why some relevant posts are downvoted. At -15 after a day.

I was wondering the same, totally valid and important question, wether security software is maintained.

People just downvote πŸ€”

Genuinely curious, as an offline password manager (versus something like a web browser), does it really need to be updated very often? What needs to be added or updated?

[–] FarLine99@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, especially as KeepassDX is just an editor of database, it does not have integration with cloud services or something else. Only UI enhancements or security bug fixes. Keepass2Android needs updates because it is much more complex app.

[–] sibloure@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Bug fixes are something I didn't consider. Makes sense.

yup πŸ™‚

I'd recommend only being concerned if, and only if, you can't find a commit to any branch at all that is more recent than 6 to 8 months or more and there's no visible news about development.

Good advice ☺️

I have been using keepass2android from the play store... Is that not good?

[–] FarLine99@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I used it for some time, but then I realized that I really don't like the interface of the program itself and keyboard's. Work logic is not entirely intuitive also. KeepassDX is much newer and, as for me, much better.

[–] Blxter@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Aight I'll give it a look I never even looked for more than one client.

[–] FarLine99@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Maybe it will better suit your needs πŸ™‚β€οΈ
