Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

They mailed the snacks in two regular boxes, inside a inverted box of the same thing. This was my childhood snack growing up, and I wanted to know if they still taste good.

Spoilers: meh. It was better when I was a kid.

Preemptive hail corporate - I wish I was getting paid to eat garbage.

Tasteykakes have progressively gotten shittier and shittier over the decades. At this point they're the same goddamn "hydrogenated oils" formed into shapes resembling cakes like every other snack cake. They all have that same fucking taste and consistency now. Same with Little Debbie.

I feel like most stuff doesn't taste as good.

So either that we were kids, and it tasted better then while as adults it's too much sugar, or every single snack has gone through enshitification that they are all bad. Honest I think it's the latter. That's what happened to housing, healthcare and just about every other aspect of our lives.

My personal theory is that it's a combination of both of those, with changing recipes and all that, + the way our tastebuds and brains experience the taste of things change throughout our lives for the non-sugary tastes, too, + changing preferences, + time and nostalgia affecting our memories of it.

I've thought about this a lot, lol

They're owned by a publicly traded holding company in Georgia (state) now and since 2011. Thst should be enough information to know why it's gotten worse.

Yup, sounds about right.

They all have that same weird mouthfeel after you're done where you swear part of it is still on the roof of your mouth or between your teeth but you can't seem to reach it or get rid of it, feels pretty gross.

For a second I thought tastykakes was your cat's name.

[–] imaginaryfriend@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

I'm renaming my cat right now

The Spoiler probably offset the HailCorporate crowd.

Sorry they aren't as good. Probably changed the recipe a few dozen times.

For a while on reddit their sidebar actually said even unintentional advertising should be called out because we have been brainwashed to post cooperate logos.

I get the vibe but...yeah those people were kinda crazy yo.

"Man this product sucks" "CODE FOR THEM BEING BRAINWASHED HAILCORPORATE!"

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I was one of 'em to be honest. And it's not a "Stop that shit" thing but be more aware of who you are promoting and why.

I'll also admit that I actually bought a product AFTER seeing it posted to r/HailCorporate.

That's one way you can tell it's true: showing a product exists advertises it.

Where are these even from? I've never hear of these in my entire life.

*waves from Philadelphia* It's our thing.

I imagine they incorrectly put the box blanks on the folding machine and reused them for delivery rather than throwing them away.

Are tastykakes still not available nationally?

[–] cdf12345@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

No, I was recently out of state and they had tasty cakes powered sugar donuts. It was amazing. Just like I remembered as a kid.
