See title.

Had a weird dream where I was trying to take part in a Lemmy thread but lots of people were commenting on it from Mastodon as well and something wasn't working right between the two. I can't remember specifics but it was extremely frustrating in the dream and I woke up fuming.

So naturally the adrenaline of possibly the world's first(?) fediverse-based nightmare had me wide awake and unable to get back to kip.

Not the best start to what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend!

Yesterday I walked 40,000 steps at a theme park fory wife's birthday, and whatever we are for dinner kept me up all night hugging Mr toilet. I feel your sleepies in my sole and whole heatedly sympathize my over seas friend!

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oh no! I hope the day was good up until the dodgy food, at least, theme parks are the best.

After all that when you do sleep you're gonna go for like 20 hours straight. Sounds amazing. Let's both aim to do that 😄

It’s 10:35 pm here in Chicago. Just had a lovely summer thunder shower. Cubs lost because they’re fucking losers. Had a nice bagel today. My cat is curled up in a ball next to me sucking on his tail (its just a thing he does)

I went to the UK for the first time back in Dec 2021, it was amazing but Big Ben was half covered up. Stayed in Shoreditch, had a great bagel there too (you know the place). Couldn’t believe the graffiti was everywhere but I guess it’s a thing. I felt like Sherlock Holmes or Jack the Ripper the whole time (didn’t act like it though).

I saw my first firefly yesterday and it was amazing.

How are you? Hope you get some sleep.

From,

Chicagoan

Well, you weren't too far away from Whitechapel - maybe that's why you had Jack vibes.

Thank you for the company while I mentally stomp around the place and complain. I'll crash and nap for a bit later and then will be back to my usual perky self I'm sure!

Sorry your Big Ben dreams were dashed, but if it helps at all it's just a big clock. Also someone is gonna come along and tell me that ackshually it's the name of the bell but I know and I've had two hours sleep do not come for me right now.

We went to Chicago in 2015, it has the dubious honour of being the worst airport I've ever been through. On the bright side we thoroughly enjoyed the giant shiny bean, and also the zoo where we saw a zebra pee for an absurdly long time. I also saw my first ever real life yellow school bus driving down by Lake Michigan and was thoroughly overexcited.

Congrats on the firefly! That does sound good, like the sort of thing you normally only see on TV.

Give the kitty a pet from me :)

If you’re in London get over to Lamb and Flag pub in Covent Garden, I do so miss that place. Wait, today is Saturday- go to Portobello!

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sadly that would be a 250 mile trip from here. But it's ok, we've invented pubs in the north too.

Here in the USA we drive further just to go to work!

I drove from Edinburgh to London once, when I got to my hotel they just were astonished that any one would or could drive that far.

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

It's not that bad a drive really, we do it on a fairly regular basis for events and stuff. Can't beat a good road trip!

Doing it for a spontaneous Saturday afternoon pub crawl would be a bit much though 😅

Just last weekend I drove for five hours to my parents house to fix their computer for three hours, then drove five hours back home.

I hated existence all day.

14:15 here in Tokyo. I haven't been to the UK in so many years, I'm not even sure what is open when these days (I was last there in '99). Got a bicycle? If it's bright enough, maybe burn some of that adrenaline cycling or running or something?

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

After a couple more hours of wakefulness we are sadly past the adrenaline stage and into the "clutching my cup of tea like it's life and death, which it is" stage. But getting outside is probably a good idea for that too!

Had a crappy night's sleep because I'm full of anxiety and low self esteem. I'm 99% sure my ex is out dating / hooking up again, which is nothing to do with me I know, he's not doing anything wrong, but it's brought up a whole mess of emotions around rejection and not feeling wanted that were going on in our relationship for a quite a while before it ended.

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ugh that sucks, and I can relate to it more than I'd like. Hope your day gets better from here on out!

0330ish is a magical time, as documented in Chicago's famous song: https://youtu.be/iUAYeN3Rp2E

Only an hour up and due to someone on the estate's dog barking rather than what I agree might be the world's first ever recorded fediverse based nightmare.

I've given up trying to get back to sleep and put the kettle on.

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh god that is the worst. You're probably not the only one around there been woken up by it either.

Cuppa sounds sooooo good but my other half is a ridiculously light sleeper and he's not been well so don't want to disturb him by clattering about. I'm not sure my hands are awake enough yet to make a stealth mission successful. Sad times.

[–] leraje@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But...but...your username is TeaHands! Surely if anyone can be trusted to make a stealth cuppa it's you.

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I never said they were also reliable hands!

[–] Finnbot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nothing worse!

Dreams are bloody mental. Sleep in general fascinates me - it’s such a weird concept. We get our energy from food etc, but we also need a wee down time every night or we end up going insane. Peak efficiency.

I’m sure I read somewhere that there’s some sort of “flushing” of the brain that happens when we’re sleeping and that’s the actual important part? I still resent the wasted time though! I also hate how fucking good it is!

[–] TeaHands@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I love sleep so much, I'd do it ten hours a day if I could. I'm just annoyingly shit at it. Go through phases where for a couple of weeks straight I'll be having the most bizarre dreams and getting no rest, we're currently about a week in so I should start getting more settled again soon.

Still, had some crunchy nut cornflakes as a breakfast treat, two giant travel mugs of tea so far, and we're having my fave food in the whole world tonight. Could be worse!
