I got the job!!!!!! General manager rang to congratulate me. I'll feel better once I have the contract, but still.

The search is finally fucking over. I was down to emergency levels of funding as this makes a huge difference.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It's the day for good news hey? Congrats to us both!! Hope that contract comes through soon, I can't imagine they'd dick you around. Definitely feel you on starting to scratch around a bit for funds, you'll sleep well when those paychecks come through :)

Background checks went through, got the official job offer call, nego'd a slight bump, contract should be through tomorrow and with any luck I'll be starting next Tuesday! And how good is this: they said after a few weeks I can change my specified working days to suit my needs, so I'm not fixed to the two days I pick at the start. How good is that?? Ultra flexibility!! Feeling very good about the job πŸ˜„

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Woohoo!!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ Yesterday was the great plate in-stock Ng and today - jobs all round. So good!!

First ever actual job application submitted. Took me two days to get the CV and Cover letter in proper shape but now I can modify them lightly for other jobs.

Ms Cat had a big day yesterday. First of all she stole my bed and my girl at 6am.

Then in the evening she stole my cash.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 8 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I don't think I've carried that much cash since before Covid.

My indoor cat just dashed through the door as I was going out. First time she has done this. I only adopted her almost a month.

Panic!

She jumped my fence which borders a large park. I grabbed a blanket, some food and went into the park, yelling her name but not really hopeful.

My son comes out yelling "Mum! She's at the back door!". He let's her in and she bolts for a bed to hide under.

She can have all the pets and treats tonight. My heart rate is gonna take some time to recover.

My girl broke through a flyscreen while I was out. I got home and freaked the fuck out. Ran around in a panic.

Found her hiding from the rain, meowing sadly next to the window she broke out of.

[–] Ntcc661@aussie.zone 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Aww! poor girl! I bet the relief you felt when you got her back was intense. Sounds like the rainy weather kept her close.

My girl just bolted. When she jumped the fence my heart dropped. We're close to Scotchmans Creek and the foxes there that have been known to attack cats. She's not much of a climber inside so seeing that just told me how panicked she was. Or determined.

Since she's been back inside she's had some bonus treats and resumed sitting in her favorite spot by the window.

In pants on a tram. The things I do for money...

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 9 points 8 months ago

if you're on a tram without pants I think that costs you more money, just quietly.

Well it's sad to see the Bendigo Hotel closing, they have also done a lot to pee off the metal scene recently.

Things have been really sus there since the start of this year. Booking less metal, removing metal merch on the wall, and trying to change the vibe of the place.

Looks like the Ungrateful Dead fest also has to find a new venue as well.

That heat really knocked me around. My sleeping pattern is worse than ever

[–] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I spent the whole day sweating like crazy for no good reason. Body must still be adjusting to normality

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 7 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

It's cooled down but still feels muggy? (inside at least)

[–] Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 5 points 8 months ago

I struggled with the heat last night too

Pi day pide dough has been made and is now rising. I'm going to do a mix of eggplant and tomato with a bit of roast lamb with moroccan seasoning and top with some slices of bocconcini.

Have an interview with a different place this afternoon. If they move me to the 2nd stage then I'll probably send an email to the other guys and see if they can give me an answer soon.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Zucchini slice in da oven..

First time making it.

Suffice it to say I'm hoping I don't fuck it up.

After reading some pointers a few said to strain the zucc after grating so it's not mushy and I have to say the raw juice was delicious.

Occasionally I look up the date for special days and discovered today is Steak & Blow job day. Don't worry ladies there's Cake & Cunnilingus day on April 14 for us. And here I thought they were just for birthdays. I went with pi day.

Nashi break

Come to think of it…does anyone know where Smeg went/if she’s all right? I haven’t seen her DTing in months

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 10 points 8 months ago

I checked her profile a while ago cause I was concerned, but she was posting on puppy subs, so I figured she'd just been lost to the DT amongst all of... that gestures vaguely

Mrs gets the mechanical check back on her potential new car today. If it passes she'll probably be picking it up tonight. Told her this is it though. If I'm back on carsales again within the next 4 years i'll lose my mind. Her new-to-her car will be the 6th car we've "owned" in the last 2 years. I'm absolutely over it.

I could not find a nice card for Steak and Blowjob day😞

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I think that's the point. You don't need a card, just an appetite for meat.

Thanks to you guys I've got an in on today's NYT crossword - usually Fridays (e: also Thursdays!) are too hard for me but I might still have a chance having figured out the theme early.

I feel like my body's run down at the moment.

I think I'm going to take the day off from work tomorrow and hopefully I'll be right after the weekend.

Has anyone here ever changed jobs without qualifications/experience and was successful in getting a new job in the new field? If so, how did you go about writing the cover letter?

Since I'm studying teaching and realise it is a lot of theory, I thought I might apply for a job as a teachers assistant but I don't have any experience in the field. I've been working on my cover letter and covered how I am studying my education degree, relevant skills I've picked up in my current and past roles, why I want to change careers and how I want to get some hands on experience so I can be best prepared to be a teacher and even mentioned it as an investment in both (the school and me) our futures.

I also mentioned Ive done work with kids for school talks with my books

I said I don't have any experience and someone told me I shouldn't mention that. But I figure being upfront about it is the best way to go. They're going to see it on the resume and even in the cover letter.

Any thoughts on including that part or anything else I should mention?

And should my resume cover my past work roles and all I've done or things that might be relevant to the role I am applying for?

Thanks,
