I'll add more apps to this list as they are released.

Since all these apps are being constantly updated, I'll also include the version number. Please don't let my post stop you from using any of these apps. My complaints will probably be fixed very, very soon.

Summit v0.1.22 (Day 1): The app is pretty neat since they added inboxes halfway through my day. The app feels pretty neat overall. It will be much better once they add profiles. I just wish they had an infinite scrolling feature. The community selection feels kinda wonky though.

Connect v1.0.73 (Day 2): This is probably the best app for Android right now; but I obviously can't tell since I haven't even tried half of them yet. Nothing feels missing from this app. It's great and has all the features I could want from a Lemmy client. The only issue I had was that some communities sometimes don't appear in the hamburger menu. I check up on my Stephen King community every few hours but I often have to search for it to find it. Overall an amazing app.

fennec v0.0.4 (Day 3): Overall a pretty neat app. It doesn't have too many formatting options; no button for adding pics to comments. The reversed voting buttons were kinda annoying and sometimes when a post had too many comments or votes, or when I was deep into a comment thread, it wouldn't show the upvote button. Also idk if it's just me being dumb but I can't figure out how to edit posts...

Thunder v0.2.1 11 (Day 4): It's a decent app. I don't really have much else to say about it. My only complaint is that you can't add images to comments and posts. If you don't really care about that it's a good choice for your main app.

Lemming 1.0.0-alpha05 (Day 5): It feels different from the others apps I've tried so far (probably just because of the unusual hamburger menu) but it's great. Profiles and inboxes are missing but i liked the UI colors quite a lot which made scrolling through it fun for me. Also, swiping to upvote requires a very small swipe on this app so I used it quite a lot whereas I literally never used it on the other apps. Pretty great and it's probably gonna be one of the best when inboxes and profiles are added.

Missing wefwef. Every app has its flaws, but Connect is the more feature-rich.

It's easy to complain about the bugs in every one of them, but let's not forget that for the vast majority of us, we didn't even know that Lemmy ever existed a month ago.

Progress has been astounding

Well put. The developers behind the apps have been on their toes to provide a more accessible experience to the community, albeit with different visions. :-)

I didn't realize this at first, but using Firefox it just installs as a home screen shortcut, but if you install from Chrome it adds it to your app drawer like an actual native app.

[–] shashi154263@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It installed like an app for me. Then they updated and told to remove and re-add. And now it just installs as a home screen shortcut.

[–] DamienGramatacus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Truly astounding! I'm getting updates from the Play Store almost every day. Hats off to the hard working Devs.

[–] mojo@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Huh, Fennec is the name of my web browser. Which I definitely recommend, it's a fork of Firefox stable with all proprietary and telemetry removed.

I keep hoping for Infinity for Reddit to port to "for Lemmy"/"for kbin", but the original dev has no interest (they're converting to a paid model) and so far no one's seriously thought about forking it.

So I've just been sticking with the mobile webpage. And honestly, it's not that bad. I'm using a few userscripts (mobile Firefox for the win) to clean it up just a tad, and it's honestly pretty good.

I think the information here is out of date

[–] kratoz29@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

The nice thing about using multiple apps is that you get tons of updates and improvements (?)

[–] bxyrk@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago

I use jerboa with blurred nsfw for daily use and connect at home when I don't care so I don't have to mess with any settings...... Until sync comes out!!!

Which app deals best with hiding already read content? I only found the option in Connect to hide the posts I already scrolled over. Joey for areddit had a post contextual menu item to hide everything above, that was the most convenient to me. Or is there any other technique to not to stare at the same content at each session ?

I was at the passport office all day and didn't get a chance to use Lemming properly. I was gonna write something with the few minutes of scrolling I did before going to bed but decide that wasn't really fair to the app. I'm gonna give it a second day before moving on to Liftoff.

I'm just waiting for Boost for Lemmy, meanwhile I'm using Connect.

[–] StoicLime@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Excellent review, helped me a lot in deciding my app of choice.

[–] dottedgreenline@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I keep trying all of them but keep coming back to Jerboa. It uses it's screen space most efficiently (even with all the customisations of the others) and for me seems to work the best.

Edit: Connect is probably the next best one I've tried on Android (and potentially better functioning than Jerboa), but the font is too bold however small I make it.

[–] 3v1n0@feddit.it 1 points 1 year ago

Also connect doesn't seem to be open source, that is sad.

[–] KayMan17@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Anyone have one that was like Reddit's "Bacon Reader"? That was my go-to app for the site.

[–] DerpDerpingtonIsHere@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've been using connect and it's actually quite good and smooth.

I've tried a few apps, but I keep going back to Jerboa

[–] Loonesota@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

If they do some more bug fixes I'll stick with Jerboa. But for the time being I've moved to Connect since I can't stand how clunky the scrolling is on Jerboa. At least on my device.

I am waiting for boost for Lemmy.

[–] HungryKoala@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can't find thunder on the Playstore, so far it's either connect or liftoff. Connect works better but liftoff looks better. But I really hope boost for Lemmy will be released soon

[–] Paralda@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

You can download the latest releases on github. It's still very much an alpha, but I think it flows the best of any app I've tried.

[–] Tyfud@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

Wefwef.app FTW

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 1 points 1 year ago

I just want to know where that cute piggy wallpaper came from :3

[–] Bigbon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Thunder for the win. > This comment was sponsored by the developer

Liking Connect so far myself.

[–] mizu6079@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Connect feels very clean, it might be the best app out of my list.

[–] BrainisfineIthink@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

I feel like it was way more glitchy last week but theyust have rolled an update because now it's absolutely solid. Thunder is nice too but it gets lost scrolling frequently. It has my favorite, probably most underrated feature though, which is the ability to tap to unblur NSFW and then re-tap to blur them again. I wish more apps would copy that feature it is SO SMOOTH, and makes me feel way better using card views and browsing with the all filter. Don't have to disable NSFW completely, but I can tap then double tap to see it and hide it again without ever leaving the feed.

Jerboa sucks ass. Liftoff is great imo.

I've been on lemmy a total of 2 hours between both apps

[–] ClaretNBlue@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm switching between Jerboa and Liftoff - Can't decide which one I prefer yet as both seem decent apps. I came over from Reddit and used Infinity and Slide fwiw

[–] efraimbart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

If you like Infinity you may want to give Infinity for Everything a try

[–] ClaretNBlue@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Thanks man. I've actually been using Connect this week after seeing it suggested in another thread and think it's my favorite so far, but I wouldn't say there is much between either of the apps I've used.

I've replaced Lemmotif with Wefwef as Lemmotif doesn't support login yet. If I get two apps with missing inboxes in a row I'll open up Liftoff for a few minutes to reply to messages. Bye for now as it's hard to find this post every time I want to reply to comments.

you should try subscribing to your home feed in an rss reader for a day too, it's a great feature of lemmy and discourages scrolling forever

[–] Father_Redbeard@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I love RSS, but was not aware you could do it with Lemmy. Can you get the link from one of the apps? I'm currently testing Connect if that helps.
