Came so very close to eating this one, I need to lay off huffing paint thinner I guess.

like 3-4 months ago the onion started being unfunny? This one was like yeah I get it, but I’ve been noticing a trend lately. Maybe it’s just the articles I have been seeing but they just feel like they’re really struggling to come up with jokes these days.

The Onion have struggled since 2016 because real headlines look more crazy than what they can come up with thanks to all the crazy stuff the right wing have been up to.

Funny enough I think they have improved the last 3-4 months, seems like they try and attack from another angle. But with jokes it's hit and miss and this one is a bit meh.

The parent company had issues with an employee union. Don't know what's the follow-up to that, but it's likely a head-up-in-ass scenario.

It’s not only you.

Though to be honest, real world events just became one onion article after the other. How can they compete with reality?

I've noticed it too. Their articles seem almost formulaic or algorithmic. I'm not saying they're AI generated, although they may be, but I've noticed that almost every single Onion article in recent history ended with the last sentence being, "at press time...". I'm not sure if they've always ended with a "at press time" joke and I'm going crazy, or if it's a new development.
