10/10 pilot episode

fantastic first episode. Coming in blind, I kinda wonder if there's gonna be more digs at work culture with the zombie parallels. As pointed out by KVin of SakugaBlog fame on twitter, the ZLM company is a pretty thinly-veiled reference to the studio OLM that BUG FILMS split off from (down to logo and office building). Seems like a lot of folks like the resignation scene but the other string of jokes I liked from this ep was that string of opposites in the MC's narration where he mentions the employees being moved to tears, or health being a priority. It kinda feels like a lot of ground and variety was covered with different sorts of shots with everything moving at a brisk pace which was kinda overwhelming (probably the point) but also really impressive and kinda exhilarating, the energy levels kinda didn't dip the whole 24 minutes.

Damn, I didn’t come in with much in terms of expectations, but that was awesome. This may be the best new anime of the season. The animation was insanely high quality, hopefully we’re in for a treat with the rest of the anime. I really loved the part where everything went grayscale, and slowly became more and more colorful from the first zombie appearance. Also, those zombies are fast as fuck, lol.

High hopes for this one going forward.

Not gonna lie, the first half of the show was too real for me.

This episode was mindbogglingly high quality, movie quality I daresay

I wonder if it'll keep it up as the series goes on

From Haro Aso, the creator of Alice in Borderland, this is something very different.

As others have said, great use of color.

I would add, some nice wild animation styling for both the black office and freedom sequences.

Didn’t realize this was from the creator of Alice in Borderland. That makes so much sense!

This was a fun one to go in blind on! I really enjoyed this first episode, though I'm still not sold on the series. This episode just gave me really strong "one-shot" vibes, y'know? They've sort of already resolved the initial conflict and tied up all the loose threads to the point where I'm not really sure what's left to explore.

Well, whatever. I'll stick around for another episode because the author & production team clearly have chops. It'll be interesting to see if they keep the same lightly manic tone of the pilot or if they veer off into more grounded post-apocalyptic storytelling. I'd prefer the former, though I do think that would be the harder path to tread here!

This reminds me alot of Gakkougurashi with its lively atmosphere contrasting the plot

It's gonna be hard trying to not read the manga while this airs 😭

Great first episode. The manga was such a blast (at least until the village arc) and they seem to have captured the spirit of it fully with awesome animation. It's a brutal reminder of how cancerous work culture can become. Everyone needs a balance.

I like it, the zombie apocalypse genre to me is not my liking but, the visual is amazing from the zombie design to the color of the blood being vibrant. The first half to me is the literal definition of a zombie employee in the workplace.

The most unrealistic thing for me was, that our MC, a wonderful person ( from what we see on the Flashback when he joined the company), that went to a good Uni, on which he was part of the Rugby team, and apparently made some good plays since he remember the public cheering for him, never had a girlfriend ? let alone a crush ?

That for me is more depressing than the soul crushing job, and if you are on a similar place to our MC, instead of working through lunch use that time to find another job, hell use your vacation/sick days if needed.

Black companies: crushing your dreams until you're better off in a zombie apocalypse.

The episode was damn great. I love the usage of colours - black and white to show lifelessness, then colourful to show "you don't need to work any more, and yes, this is real life". They interact great with the multicoloured splotches of blood, I guess that they've made it this way to not screw with audience classification? Or just to throw the whole deal into the surreal.
