It looks great. I really hope soon to start recommending Matrix and using it with people who aren't necessarily technical, instead of Whatsapp, Discord or even Signal. I'm looking forward to the multi account feature too.

This app needs a lot. Randomly colored nicknames in modern layout, the ability to search for new rooms, a more compact mode to see more lines on screen at once.

No APK?! Build it by my self?

@pescetarian @independantiste you just have to know where to get it.

  1. https://github.com/vector-im/element-x-android/actions/workflows/build.yml?query=branch%3Adevelop
  2. Log in
  3. Select latest build
  4. Download elementx-debug
  5. Extract and install right version

The oldest supported device for iOS16 is the iPhone8 (2017). If you have a device without iOS 16, you must have iOS15 or even older. The oldest device supporting iOS15 is the iPhone6 (2014). That is 9 years old.

I feel your pain. But then again, it is amazing how you apparently still rocking a device that is nearly a decade old and is still acceptable fast for you to use. That in itself is a amazing thing. If you still want to use your older iPhone, you sure can (even without getting newer iOS updates) and you could still use matrix from the web. You do not need to use it via an App - even tho understand how it would make it more convenient. But it still blows my mind what lifetime you were able to pull out of your device. And maybe even will continue to. Kudos.

@BenJammin @japps13 according to the app store you must have ios 16.4 my friend has an iphone 11 and is on 16.3 without the option to update

[–] BenJammin@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why does he have an iPhone 11 and can not update? I have a XS and still receive updates (of course) and currently are on 16.5.1. The 11 is sure not falling out of the update cycle just yet. In this apple site the 11 is of course also mentioned for iOS17.

I do not get why he has an 11 without getting updates. What does the update screen show? You telling me his 11 is on 16.3 and the dialogue says "You are on the latest"?

@BenJammin I also think it's weird. It might be a regional thing that apple doesn't push an update. I'm not too familar with ios

I have a second-hand iPhone 7, my wife has an iPhone 6s. Neither supports iOS 16. The iPhone 7 was discontinued in 2019. I try to keep things for as long as possible for ecological reasons, eg most of the carbon footprint lies in the manufacturing and recycling. Besides, I don't use the phone for gaming, which might be a reason why I haven't noticed it being particularly slow (unlike my previous phone which was a iPhone 4s and was getting significantly slower over time).

I think that is a good thing to do. Nothing weird or cringe about that. And I admire apple for supporting a device that long. But as you can see, at one point even the longest support will end. Then again, me rocking my XS Max, I think I will update next year to a used 12 or 13. Depending on price and availability. I do not need the latest phone, but The carbon footprint was already saved quite a bit and when I reuse an old iPhone 12, I think this is something I can sleep in peace with.
