In Italy there's a well know travel agency called Avventure nel Mondo which organises participant managed tours more or less everywhere in the world. Unlike more traditional organised travel, once you are there, it's the group that makes decisions on exactly what to do. Here's their "manifesto" in Italian. It's meant to be in between solo travel and organised travel.

For example, say they offer a 22 day trip to Madagascar leaving on certain dates, with a suggested itinerary, for say 2500 euro, and have 12 spots available. They provide one person as a trip coordinator: this is someone who's most likely never been on that trip, but has travelled a lot with them and is a trusted collaborator (they travel for free). They will act as the point of reference for the group, but they are a participant, not a guide. They provide the coordinator with all the information possible: local guides, hotels, activities, etc. Some accommodation could be booked already, and in places like Africa they would book drivers with transport for the group. In other cases the participants could take turns to drive.

On the trip, following the itinerary (that's why everyone is there anyway), the group can do what they want, and people are not just taken from place to place. For instance you might decide to stay one day longer somewhere and skip something else.

Anything similar based in Scandinavia? Thanks!
