As an American-Brit who has been living in Sweden for a couple of years, I've always found it interesting that pretty much everyone I know here can be found at their home address simply by googling their name and clicking on hitta.se. When I show this to my British or American friends, they're always shocked, and I find myself explaining that "Swedes have a very different, more trusting, relationship with their government than Brits or Americans."

Personally, I've never had a problem arise from this, and neither has anyone I know here, but I've been here less than for two years. I love it here and I can see myself living here for the rest of my life (that is, if you'll have me! Soon time to renew my visa!)

But I find myself wondering: Has anyone here, or anyone you know, ever had a problem arise from their address being listed publicly? Strange people turning up at your door, weird post or packages, or something worse?

Someone in my class applied for a summer job for me by using that information since it includes everything you need for an application. Personal security number, email address, everything, even my damn number. But the cops got involved later, and in normal Swedish fashion, they did fuck all🤗. Ended with another police investigation that has not been started yet👍🏻 it’s been four years, and all the former classmate does now is mock me for pressing charges and is very hostile towards me. Idk even know why🙃

Bought a brand new Lexus RX350h 2022. Some car thieves spotted it in Gothenburg and two weeks after buying it, they stole it and drove it up to Stockholm, then the ferry to Poland.

I might add that this was organized crime. Over 70 RX350s were stolen that month. Makes it a lot easier for thieves when they can check where you live based on the car plate.

Yes. Stalkers.

I hate the swedish state. Extremely controlling.

I’ve always found it to be a big invasion of privacy and it’s made me uncomfortable knowing how easily a stranger can find out so much about me. Also had a stalker for like 8 years, changed addresses 3 times after I turned 18 and he obviously found me every time without much effort… He’d just randomly stand outside my building every now and then, staring at me with a creepy smirk. Tried to have my info removed from every site but not all them were cooperative. Wasn’t until I moved to Denmark that I got away from him.

Overall just find it absolutely bizarre that people’s info is out there for anyone to anonymously look up. There is no good reason, it does way more harm than good. But of course people who never had any issues because of it don’t see anything wrong with it.
