As an American-Brit who has been living in Sweden for a couple of years, I've always found it interesting that pretty much everyone I know here can be found at their home address simply by googling their name and clicking on hitta.se. When I show this to my British or American friends, they're always shocked, and I find myself explaining that "Swedes have a very different, more trusting, relationship with their government than Brits or Americans."

Personally, I've never had a problem arise from this, and neither has anyone I know here, but I've been here less than for two years. I love it here and I can see myself living here for the rest of my life (that is, if you'll have me! Soon time to renew my visa!)

But I find myself wondering: Has anyone here, or anyone you know, ever had a problem arise from their address being listed publicly? Strange people turning up at your door, weird post or packages, or something worse?

In Sweden, integrity as such- personal included is 100% non existant.

Unless you have reasons for it to be hidden.

We have open registries over all Swedish citizens and those allowed here, and even though it’s scary from a privacy perspective, it also creates a lot of advantages. In addition, Sweden is built as a high trust society, and for as long as we can retain high internal trust between us living here, the open information works fairly well.

I know that swedish influensers/content creators have had problema people showing up at their door. One girl had a bunch of kids knock and waiting outside her door all day - even peeking in the mail drop ect.

Edit: But other than public people i have never heard of any problems. I can only speak for myself but i rarely look up adresses/numbers instead of asking since it feels like violating their privacy to get it without their knowledge. I only search it up if really necessary. FX once when a kid was misbehaving online i actually texted his mom showinf what he was posting - and i got the number from searching it up. I would guess it also could potentially be bad for those people involved in gangs😒 - being able to look up their addresses and their family’s as well ect.

Never. Except if you're a billionaire or high level politician, no one cares.

My ex got a new boyfriend who turned out to be an abusive shit. When he heard I helped her on a couple of occasions and let her sleep on my couch when she had been beaten and arrived by police car he started harassing me (and my kid mind you) and threatened to have him and his biker buddies come pay us a visit.

I guess he could have gotten my information from other sources but I had a lot of sleepless nights because it’s so easy to find online.

Native swede here and I’ve never had an issue. but alot of girls I’ve been seeing have removed their info from hitta.se and made their cellphone number private in order to stop worrying about potential weirdos who might snoop on them.

I don’t mind having my address on there, never had an issue. I’ve done pretty well to keep my phone number off though - I get almost no spam calls at all these days.

I never had issues with it, but I also kind of dislike the practices of ratsit.se and others. They publicly display personal data without any way to remove it (for good). They are circumventing GDPR by registering as a "publisher" (news publisher) and therefore thwy have other rights then regular companies when it comes to GDPR. I don't like that strategy, but it is a good business idea if course..

Haven't had problems with it, but if you feel uncomfortable with having all that information there, you can request for your page to be deleted

No, I have never encountered any problems and I've used Hitta, Ratsit and most commonly Birthday.se. I mostly use it to look up my online dates (so I know who to blame if I get murdered), look up my neighbors for one of many reasons or like "track down" my exes (not actually reaching out though, like a psycho). I'm guessing a lot of people do the same hehe.

I have never suffered from it nor has anyone I know ever suffered from it. The only time I use hitta is to find someone's phone number I might have forgotten.

Ive never had any problems related to this. It is however possible to hide yourself manually from certain services such as Hitta, Ratsit and MrKoll.

If you are under risk of threats or violence its possible to apply for secrecy marking at the tax agency(keep in mind the police has to be involved) wich means you will not be enlisted on theese websites.

There was a post from a guy who asked similar question. He was wondering if it is possible to remove yourself from this sites , because they offer for just 40 kronor if you pay you can actually see their paycheck and because of that he had few burgluries in his home

A colleague was the victim of identity theft. Some one ordered clothes in his name. He stopped the order before it was sent and has gotten his personal identity number blocked so he has to unlock it if someone needs to take a credit check on him. But I guess such a scam would be possible without his address being public.

If you have a stalker I think they would eventually find out as well where you live as well, so unless you are a public figure that lots of nosy people seek out I can't see the problem.

If you have circumstances that makes your information being public a risk for your life, health, freedom or peace you can get them protected so they aren't public anymore.
