As an American-Brit who has been living in Sweden for a couple of years, I've always found it interesting that pretty much everyone I know here can be found at their home address simply by googling their name and clicking on hitta.se. When I show this to my British or American friends, they're always shocked, and I find myself explaining that "Swedes have a very different, more trusting, relationship with their government than Brits or Americans."

Personally, I've never had a problem arise from this, and neither has anyone I know here, but I've been here less than for two years. I love it here and I can see myself living here for the rest of my life (that is, if you'll have me! Soon time to renew my visa!)

But I find myself wondering: Has anyone here, or anyone you know, ever had a problem arise from their address being listed publicly? Strange people turning up at your door, weird post or packages, or something worse?

Criminals will go on these websites and target people for breakins, robberies etc. Also to find family members of other criminals. If someone steals your bag with ID and keys etc, they can get the fastest route to your home via their phone in less than 2 minutes. Most ppl i know dont want to be on ratsit, because of the obvious security risks and privacy issues, but it seems like its tolerated enough for politicians not to have to do anything about.

Not ever before last week. In our towns facebook page someone complained about motorbikes being too loud. One old guy called OP an idiot and said he would drive even louder next time. I wrote that the man had the smallest penis in town. He said I should be quiet and posted a picture of my address and my annual salery. I reported him and blocket him, he was clearly a maniac. The day after there was a load ass motorbike going by my house four times, never heard such bike here before. So I think the psycho went by my house. I have now promised my wife to stop anger people on facebook.

I started chatting with a girl on a dating app. However I soon realized that that she was a bit strange and told her that I wasn't interested anymore.

She found my info on hitta.se and started to call both me and to my parents telling everyone that she would kill herself, randomly showing up outside my home etc. It was actually quite creepy.

I have since then asked all the big companies to remove my info from their websites. Hitta, eniro was kind and removed most of the info, but ratsit didn't want to.

No issues. I haven't had this happen to me personally, but I guess it becomes a little easier for scam-callers to find enough info to convince a gullible person to think they are actually a relative, their bank etc.

I also find it a bit weird and "integritetskränkande" that anyone can just look up anyone's salary (usually this feature is behind a paywall, but I've heard that you can also just ask Skatteverket directly). This kind of stuff also makes it a little easier for nasty ppl to target rich people (to get an idea of whos house is worth breaking into, etc)

I haven't, but that doesn't mean there aren't those that have had problems.

The problems, while sometimes serious, are to my knowledge outweighed by the usefulness.

Same issue with Swedish law not allowing for anonymous testimonies in criminal courts. Allows the rampant organized crime scene in Sweden to silence potential detractors. But for some reason, wanting privacy is equal to “having something to hide”

Never had problem with that. Don't know anyone that ever had just because someone can google there name and look at hitta.se.

Those ppl that had ppl showing up at there door they didn't find them true hitta.se

Think that before hitta.se like 20y ago we had phonebooks that we got every year with same info as hitta.se of not as update but still.

As a trans person I haven’t had any problems but I’m definitely upset about how much personal information is available, and I can’t do anything to get it taken off. Being described as the wrong gender is fine, I understand why that happens. But stating I’ve had a name change and scrolling down a couple sentences to reveal what my name used to be, that’s just awful.

Even people who aren’t trans and changed their name shouldn’t have to put up with this intrusion of privacy.

Not yet. But a man emailed my work email address to tell me that I had recently bought a house. "And you live with a 29 year old, and I am 69 years old." Direct quote... My work has been taking steps to stop him from visiting my work place. Nothing to stop him from visiting my home. He hasn't yet as far as I know.

If you think that is wild, the personnummer (like yanks social security number) is open to public (yes even the last 4 digits) and available to check online. Never had any problems with it but my friend did since we changed his name as a practical joke on his 18th birthday which was kinda funny. At that time (10+) years ago you didnt even have to pay for it, just send in an application which was pretty untraceable. It's not as easy today (prob cuz of people like me) since you have to pay about 200kr for it through your bank so it's easy to trace and it's a crime to do it (preskriptionstiden is over for me tho and he kept the new name since he thought it was pretty funny)

I bet they are even more chocked if you tell them our tax records are public. You can find out exactly how much tax anyone has paid.
