  • Brush: Wolfman WRB2 Bronze w/AP Shave Co MiG 26mm Premium Hybrid

  • Razor: Thiers Issard Le Grelot 6/8 Full Hollow

  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Amazelnut - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner

  • Aftershave: Noble Otter - Cerberus - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

A very quick shave today. I had no time to check today's theme, but I had time to enjoy Amazelnut and pair it with Cerberus (not perfect, but not a bad pairing). The Le Grelot is the first good straight razor that I purchased. Prior to getting it I used Gold Dollars. I can put a good shaving edge on a Gold Dollar but they aren't shave-ready when you get them. Their quality control is poor and the design is inelegant. The Thiers Issard is the opposite. Great steel, elegant design, excellent handling, and in the lower price category of high quality razors (along with Ralf Aust).

  • Brush: Maggard 24mm Synthetic
  • Razor: RazoRock Game Changer .84P
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (2)
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - Soap
  • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm
  • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - EdT

I'm so glad I got a Varen trifecta. After I killed my 1st tub, I just knew I'd end up with more, despite me typically not being attached to scents. There's something about Varen that makes me love it. Back in the day it was one of the very first soap samples, and I wasn't very impressed with it. It doesn't smell "good" or "fancy", but it's so unique and mellow. I ended up loving it. I've killed 15 tubs of soap in my 3.5 years of wetshaving, and I've never had the urge to replace one until Varen.

Believe it or not, as much as I love Stirling this is the first time I've ever used their normal aftershave. I always heard it was a bit harsh, and it might be, but I've honed my skills with aftershaves like this. I apply it to a wet face, and towel it off. It's a bonus that it makes your towel smell good.

  • Prep: warm water
  • Razor: RazoRock Hawk V2
  • Blade: KAI Captain Pink
  • Brush: AP Shave Co. 30 mm Tuxedo Fan w/ black & clear handle
  • Lather: Noble Otter - Neon Sun
  • Post Shave: Thayer's Cucumber facial spray; Natura Siberica ASB gel
  • Fragrance: Coach Platinum EdP

I realised that I forgot to log yesterday's shave, so I gave the same soap and brush a spin again...

1 pass head shave, no nicks or irritation. Noble Otter always treats my skin well. The KAI blades aren't really my favourite, but they work way better than the Feather AC blades I used to have. My real champions are the guarded KAI Protouch though.

So today we had a little carnival party at our nursing/therapist school... And my class had to organise it. Despite me absolutely hating anything related to carnival ("Fasching" over here), some fun was had and we did well.

In other news, the moustache is back. At least in some capacity - yesterday I trimmed everything else down with the 1/2 guard of my Gamma+ Absolute Hitter (perhaps the best trimmer I ever had) and only went over my upper lip with the 1 guard. So it's about 2 mm longer than the other stubble, barely noticeable but still a start. I really didn't like myself with just stubble - it was making me look like a nobody, like someone just blending in with the masses. One of the most important things I learnt in my twenties: don't let anybody else dictate what you should like. You have to feel comfortable with yourself, not all the others. And if you prefer something that's niche, so be it! It's the same with music and wetshaving to an extent - sure, a Gillette cartridge razor would also do the job on my dome and perhaps in less time. But do I want that? Nope. I like taking my time, enjoying the process and paying attention to what feels good.
