Hej hej!

I moved to Stockholm 7 months ago, have a master's degree in geotechnical engineering and have a work experience as a junior data analyst for 2 years, I am on a sambo visa and look for data scientist/analyst positions (internship/junior positions). All I get is AI generated rejection emails! I assume having a network in finding a job is all that matters in Sweden! and I dont have that! I applied for the data analyst program at Hyper Island and got accepted, I dont know if this would help me or not (adding a Swedish education background to my resume, networking at HI). Any suggestion regarding polishing my strategy towards getting a job or where to get at least a praktik role is highly appreciated.

Maybe learn Swedish? Although all swedes can fluently talk English, very few workplaces use it as a primary language.

Also, if all your applications are being automatically rejected, something is wrong. Maybe update your CV or cover letter, react out to recruiters. Change anything, await results and assess them.

I am taking Swedish courses at folkuniversitetet, I started them one week after I got here and I also mention it in my resume.

Jag kan Svenska men jag är inte flytande. Jag har pluggat A nivå, och nu tar jag B1 nivå. Jag försöker att prata och öva men du vet att det tar tid att bli flytande på Svenska.

Thanks for your suggestions

Jag förstår. Men jag tror faktiskt många företag hade uppskattat om du främst pratade knackig svenska och använde engelska när du måste. :)

I assume it's more about you not having proper knowledge/education to get a job as a data analyst/scientist. You say you have a Master's in geotechnical engineering, that's not very relevant for working with data analysis.

How are your knowledge in Python? T-SQL? PowerShell?

Do you have any knowledge in GIT, Azure, DevOps?

If you have this knowledge, is it presented accordingly in your CV? Do you have a portfolio showing some projects you've done so that you can present it to a potential employer?

I learned programming by myself, I can do data cleaning with python (numpy, pandas), data visualization with py (matplotlib, seaborn). I am also good at PBI. I used gitlab in my previous job. I took online corses on SQL and I am comfortable working with it. I look for internship (praktik) or junior positions.

I understand what you mean and that is what I try to do know to build a github page and present my projects there, but I am not allowed to use the projects we did in my previous job so I would work on some kaggle competitions and maybe post them on github.

Thanks for your suggestions and reply

thank you for the detailed information that you provided. My experience is not that deep and much that is why I look for internship or junior positions.

One of the projects I worked on was to predict stocks price using pycarrot library. We scraped stock data, cleaned it, normalized it, and then applied pycarrot on it to predict which ones are better options to buy for a specific range of time. Others were mostly data cleaning and creating reports from the data.

You are right and I have a long way ahead of me, I know there is so much to learn but even a job like this

https://www.monster.se/jobb/sok?q=Data+analyst&where=Stockholm%2C+SE&page=1&so=m.p.l

would be a good starting point for me. 7 months and not even a job like this is really making me feel depressed.

Yes do go to HI. A one year program at most though because their value is their connections with the industry, and you'll go spend two weeks here and there and build relations with these companies or consultants working there that might want to recruit you too their agencies.

Two years ago when I was looking for PhD positions in geotechnical engineering I found out about data science and ML and I thought I really like to change my major, I had all the math and statistics needed for it so I started learning Python and then got an internship and then my junior position as a data analyst, I moved to Stockholm 7 months ago and now wanna pursue my DS role. I believe data analysis and data science jobs can be used everywhere there are tones of data needed to be polished and cleaned and manipulated so that using ML models one could come up with predictions and make optimum decisions. Even in geotechnical engineering regarding data taken from tests on a specific soil, can be manipulated and worked on with data analysis.

I did a masters in geotechnical engineering and then found out I like DA and got and internship and worked as a junior DA, I moved to Stockholm and I cannot get a job after 7 months, so I assume I need to build a network, what are my options? Study? no, it takes so much time. Vocational school? better option as I might get connected with industry. If you have any better options please let me, and thanks for your reply!

tbh, I was very down when I read your reply, everyday I ask myself why waste my time and study again while I can prove my capabilities if I would be given a praktik upportunity! on my cv I have listed my education (start, finish dates), related courses which mostly inclide math and statistics. I wrote my contact info under my pic. I have added my experience and details on what were my tasks and what tools I used to handle them. I have the language skills part, and have stated that I am actively learning Swedish and taking B1 at folkuniversitetet now. I have listed my skills, my interests, refrences. I have written a paragraph about myself and stated that I have a work permit in Sweden. If you have any idea on how to polish it I appreciate it

Like here, why dont u just post ur CV instead retracting ur name.

Instead of writing it out like a block of text.

Sad to see you're getting so many rude and unhelpful replies. Maybe post a copy of your CV (anonymized, of course) in a related subreddit to your field of work and ask for feedback? Or maybe just the template you're using.

There's a lot of people seeking jobs right now due to layoffs especially in affected so it's important to do everything you can to stick out.
