"We know that the PRC sought to clandestinely and deceptively influence the 2019 and 2021 federal elections,” according to the briefing released by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.

The declassified document, dated Feb. 24, 2023, is titled, “Briefing to the Minister of Democratic Institutions on Foreign Interference.” It called China “by far the most significant threat.”

It also named India as a foreign interference threat, predicted the problem would worsen and said, “we must do more to protect Canada’s robust democratic institutions and processes.”

“The PRC’s FI activities are broad in scope and significant in the level of expended resources,” it said. “The activities are significant, pervasive, and directed against all levels of government and civil society across the country.”

Ugh, okay article , China and India are running FI, but can I please learn how and who they are supporting if anyone? Different people at different levels I assume, getting rid of outspoken opponents and installing sympathizers? Or are they chaos actors trying to destabilize us? What policy goals do we think they are trying to advance?

Blah, I hate it when they don't link to the report or study they discuss.

I've looked it up on the ATI portal, but it doesn't look like the portal has previously requested data up for 2024 yet, which is frustrating. I did stumble across one that looks like its a review of the PRC interference in the 2019 election, so once that comes through I'll be interested to read it.

I'll eventually come back and see if I can find the original report.

I feel the same way.

Let us know if you come across the report, & post a link if possible!

All government agencies must work to “detect, disrupt and publicize” interference

A wonderful idea, from a report that is not (AFAIK) publicly available, has sat on Liberal minister Dominic LeBlanc's desk for a full calendar year, and was only revealed by a private news outlet issuing an Access to Information request. Hmm. Where are those government agencies at?

What is the point of "declassifying" a document to the extent that Global News can run a story about it scant on details but it's not publicly available? "Marginally less classified" might be more accurate

Title should be:

Federal government finally admits to knowing about foreign interference in elections.
