Anyone else remember when the abc was left heavy?

Anyway, this:

"The fact that we've turned a $78 billion deficit that was forecast under the Liberal National Party government just over a year ago into a surplus that's in excess of $4 billion is a positive thing."

Ugh I absolutely hate how media have swallowed the lie that budget surpluses are anything other than pure misapplication of public funds.

Like... why brag that they've taken all this tax from us and they're not spending it when us citizens are going through hard times?

legit, a nation that boasts a surplus when any of its citizens live in penury is a failed fuckin' state.

Taking extra money out of the system during high inflation periods is good.

Reducing money supply has it's arguments for and against.

But this is useless hoarding. It's not smart, it's not good policy - it's purely because Labor have let Liberal and Murdoch decide the agenda for decades instead of just explaining in a soundbite-friendly way that government budgets are not household budgets

How is it not good policy right now in a time of high inflation? 5 minutes ago the media was bitching that government spending will increase inflation, are you sure "Labor have let Liberal and Murdoch decide the agenda" because it sounds like you've somehow turned into a Murdoch reader?

"Labor might be licking its lips with a budget surplus, but Australian households are on their knees in pain," Shadow Climate Change and Energy Minister Ted O'Brien said.

and inflation is the primary reason reason for the cost of living crisis? The recent massive energy price rise was largely due to inflation.

"Where there's a surplus, it's because the government is receiving more tax dollars, they are taxing companies, they are taxing the Australian people."

and you want to do tax cuts while there's high inflation!? Why is the Shadow Climate Change and Energy Minister Ted O'Brien talking economics???
