Too many to name, and too subjective. My favorites are jazz-rock fusion (shout Tony Williams, RIP), piano trios (piano, bass, keys, check Vijay Iyer), Afro-Cuban (check guys like Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Tito Puente for big band), Afro-Brazilian (Airto Moreira, Hermetto Pascoal), there’s a lot of shit (in the jazz sense of the word “shit”) that isn’t easily categorized that people call “Avant Garde” that is fly af, like Sun Ra (also called “Afro futurism”), I really dig EARLY, acoustic Medeski, Martin, & Wood (their Radiolarians series is also dope), not clear to me how to categorize them, other than piano trio (except their shit with Scofield). Just some thoughts.
The reason I started learning to play guitar was the gypsy jazz version of Sweet Georgia Brown.
