I see “fuck u/Spez” and I upvote

[–] Lexxan@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I always mention that spez moderated the jailbait subreddit instead of saying fuck spez.

[–] Bushwhack@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Spez would like that though. Don’t give him that satisfaction. 🤣

[–] NotSpez@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Me too man, me too

Nice. My only suggestion is to check whether the data is actually gone in a week or so.. Mine got undeleted multiple times, not all at once, post by post, day by day... Now I've edited coments instead. That shit must be gross violation of GDPR. Fuck /u/Spez

[–] cerberus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah that's why I had the script set to edit first then delete

All done, deleted user account as well

[–] tenth@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Can you link to the source?

I used PowerDeleteSuite which kinda do the same thing but its browser-based

[–] cerberus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Link is listed below: https://github.com/x89/Shreddit

I’m a software engineer by trade so adapting this was trivial

[–] Heastes@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Shreddit is great. Have been using it in docker for ages to periodically remove comments that are older than a certain amount of time.

What did you have to adapt, though?

[–] cerberus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

3sec timeout issues, removing extraneous code, more efficiency, ability to run locally rather that using pip, some dependency issues

[–] Heastes@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Interesting, is your fork available publicly or was that just a personal project?

[–] cerberus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You’re the first to ask so I’ll make a fork and send you the link!

[–] Magister@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I'm using Redact, it worked pretty well!

[–] kaotic@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When I get around to doing this I’m going to use a list of random quotes. Reddit is shadow banning comments that say fuck spez.

[–] HollowNotion@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

"Never"

"Gonna"

"Give"

"You"

"Up"...

How does this work? Is it a python script that runs on a local machine?

[–] tgxn@lemmy.tgxn.net 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

looks like it! I wonder if he's using frontend API calls to achieve this.

[–] cerberus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

https://github.com/x89/Shreddit > that's what I used however I pared down the program a bit. also running locally since there's a few python issues that I had to fix

[–] tgxn@lemmy.tgxn.net 1 points 1 year ago

Nice! Glad to see it still works.

[–] nbdy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It uses praw under the hood.

[–] JackLSauce@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Glad I'm not the only one who made such a script

Mine said "so long and thanks for all the fish" but was pretty amateurish and who knows if you can even run it for free anymore

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

We can only hope Spez sits on rusty forks everytime he sits down.

[–] fogetaboutit@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

do you get in trouble with rate limiting? I don't use reddit myself, just curious.

[–] cerberus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I built in some 2 second sleeps because the OG shreddit script hit rate limits easily

[–] notasandwich1948@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So it can't be used as an engagement metric. They'll still fees it into data models and whatnot

Power Delete Suite is super easy to use

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Edit and delete like it says, or edit?

[–] cerberus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

script edits and then deletes post for historical purposes

Power Delete Suite is super easy to use
