FAQ
- What does "&c" mean? It's an old-fashioned abbreviation for et cetera.
LibraryThing is a good alternative to Goodreads.
Yeah it used to be great. I've kept around a bit on it for book club stuff and custom notifications, but I mostly use Storygraph in its place these days. A bit rough around the edges yet but has been working decently for me.
Pity Amazon got its claws on Goodreads though.
Honestly, you can say same thing about any page, app that let users write reviews. There will always be trolls, review bombs, corporate buying reviews etc. I have bigger problems with goodreads as app itself.
I think it’s also impossible to know who actually did read a book and who didn’t. Hard to keep something like this both fair and open without strict moderation, and almost nobody wants to do that for free.
It was a different article but I remember a Goodreads librarian commenting that they were basically working for Amazon for free.
Yeah we do.
This is why I'm so conflicted about doing librarian work. Yay for putting things in order! Boo for free labor for a global behemoth.
@hsl Your website was reported for phishing 😅, can't trust that source.
Ouch! Which website was reported for phishing?
Thanks! Good that you've called it out - I wouldn't have known otherwise.
