I was wondering whether this community focuses on discussing and recommending manga, or mostly on "manga announce" instead, from the majority of the posts I'm seeing. The sidebar doesn't give much information.

NB: just in case I'm being misread, this is not a criticism! Just trying to understand whether I'm interested in subscribing or not.

No worries! We are trying to be one of the (if not the) most active community in the Fediverse about manga. Right now we are not that many, sadly, so that's why right now we only are mimicking what we did on Reddit. I am sure that when more people will join it will start being way more interesting and full of discussions. 🥰

Yes this is the community with most subscribers I've found so far. I'm interested in a community where manga are discussed, recommended, and so on. At the moment the vast majority of the posts here ("[DISC]" – does that stand for Discord?) seems to be about announcements of new chapters, and I wonder if they're taking over a bit too much. Maybe it's possible to create a community specifically for announcements? Or any other solutions? – Only if other members share my point of view as well, of course.

DISC stands for discussion, it should be used to talk about the chapter (usually recently released) that has been just posted. You could obviously intend it as a new chapter announcement but the meaning is, as stated, to discuss about that specific chapter.

I see, thank you for the explanation! Then it makes sense :)

I could be wrong but I thought “DISC” stands for “discussion”. So those threads are for discussing a specific chapter

By all means post threads that aren’t about new chapter discussions to spur on what you want to see. For right now, due to the small size of this community, there’s not enough people who want to share many posts that aren’t just new chapter announcements. New chapter announcement threads are the easiest and least thinking-involved participation for us.

I really liked the reddit style of just being a mish mash of all, be it new chapters, art, personal notes, etc. However, that sub has millions of subscribers, and even still the actual rate of posts that aren’t new chapters is very low for such a number. Thus, it should be fairly expected that it will be hard to get such engagement here when the community is a tiny fraction. However, that doesn’t mean don’t do it. This post garnered views and comments, so non chapter discussions can totally happen! I think they can be together side by side in a community.
