Meta has not announced an official release date for the app, but it showing up on the Google Play store likely means a release is imminent.

It appears as though that was a mistake, however, because the app is nowhere to be found now.

Can we all agree that this is 100% intentional? Can we agree on this one at least?

Ehhh. I don't think that they're trying to kill Mastodon. I think that they see this as an opportunity to take on Twitter, who is their competitor to be The One Social Media Company. Now, sure, in the long term there may be embrace-and-extend concerns, but...

The article says it looks like Twitter.... To me, it looks like Instagram without the images, and not entirely like Twitter at all. Perhaps I'm missing something.
