Maybe orcs have always been "soft", but it's taken a cultural shift to get to a point where they're allowed to be themselves.

Back in my day, Orcs were only brutal monsters to be slain without remorse. If you wanted to be a green meanie you played a half-orc and you liked it and you didnt question the parental implications of your character!

I'm pretty sure it wasn't an implication
