Ergonomic, split and other weird keyboards

Rules

Keep it ergo

Posts must be of/about keyboards that have a clear delineation between the left and right halves of the keyboard, column stagger, or both. This includes one-handed (one half doesn't exist, what clearer delineation is that!?)

i.e. no regular non-split¹ row-stagger and no non-split¹ ortholinear²

¹ split meaning a separation of the halves, whether fixed in place or entirely separate, both are fine.
² ortholinear meaning keys layed out in a grid

To celebrate the launch of c/emk on Lemmy, we have decided to give away a custom keycaps set to the new community's members!

How to participate?

  • Create your dream custom keycap set on fkcaps.com/custom (any profile/layout is allowed)
  • At the very last step called "Summary", click "Save for later" (or buy it, you'll be refunded if you win)
  • Copy the 6 characters code given, and paste it in a (top level) comment below

🚀 LET'S GO!

Requirements

  • Be a Lemmy community member
  • Have an account on FK (you will be prompted for your email when "saving for later")

We are looking forward to see the custom sets you'll come up with! If you have any questions or comments, let us know!

FAQ

  • How will you pick the winner?

We'll use an online randomizer altogether with obosob (community mod). First code pulled wins!

  • Can I make any layout or does it have to be ergo?

Any layout is can win this giveaway, but you know where our heart is!

  • Which keycap profile is allowed?

All keycap profiles are allowed. We currently have DSA, MDA, Cherry and MBK. If you have profile requests, submit a feature request

  • How many keys can I include in my custom layout?

There is no hard limit, but for the sake of it, let's say 200 keys max 😉

Winner

Congrats to @Djeikup@lemmy.world your set has been drawn and will be sent to you for free! I have also sent coupons to all other participants, I hope you have enjoyed testing the app as much as I did enjoy looking at your sets!

FYI I did the draw and sent a video to OBOSOB (mod of this sub) to show it's been done in good faith!

I notice all the 1.5u choc caps are out. I assume there is no way to make those for the giveaway?

[–] fkcaps@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Oh there was actually some confusion in the software with convex/concave options, thanks for pointing it out, I have fixed it now!

(I couldn’t find the possibility to rotate 1.5u keycaps by 90 degrees ... and realized I need to rotate the image)

Thanks for doing this! Is this the first official giveaway done on Lemmy? 8BVPXPN

[–] fkcaps@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

hah I don't know, for this community it probably is!

FYI you pasted the code wrong (it's 7 characters long), I looked it up and it is actually 8BVXPN

1DPXQQ this my code tho ill need some extra added things (i added a numrow to teh kyria so i can use this for my elora when it comes)

[–] fkcaps@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

alright! you may want to customize this num row then don't you? also beware that some legends sometimes are too big for the key (Caps Lock / Backspace) so you'd want to fix that too

To edit your set to make those changes:

  • Go to your creations using this link, or by clicking the user icon in the top right
  • Click the set you want to edit
  • Click the “customize” button
  • Update the code in your comment
[–] yes@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

SKAEKH

Will you be offering more colors?

Also, if you could somehow link up with Keyboard Layout Editor, that would be really cool!

[–] fkcaps@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

KLE link is a feature that's been requested yes it's in the list thanks!

You may upvote it here: https://fkcaps.com/custom/support (I just added it)

Regarding colors, yes but it's a logistics issue at this point, we basically need to order a lot of keycaps to have enough color options

MQE5WE

My layout for my Lily58, currently have a mishmash of keys that don't even let the RGB through...

[–] fkcaps@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I'll be crossing my fingers for you then!

[–] hail@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Too bad there's no keycap support for the Keychron K2's layout... Oh well, sick giveaway and cool site/keycap builder!

Best of luck to anyone entering!

[–] fkcaps@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

oh right, for sculpted profile we don't have yet a wide range of options, and the R4 1.75u key is not available yet

you can however make one on a flat profile, our only option atm is DSA

I've added the Keychron K2 (which I have coincidentally received yesterday to make some tests, and was just testing some keycaps on when I read your message haha)

P55CS3

Looks great! I wish there was a little more customization available: I use Colemak DH, and I would prefer icons instead of full "backspace" on a 1u.

[–] fkcaps@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks!

You may have missed a few options then, at the "Legends" step. You can:

  • click on keys to edit its text label (and also add text/icons or even custom SVG by clicking "vector")
  • drag and drop icons from common icon libraries, from the "Icons" tab on the left panel

To edit your set to make those changes:

  • Go to your creations using this link, or by clicking the user icon in the top right
  • Click the set you want to edit
  • Click the "customize" button

Note that it won't actually "edit" it, but create a new one. So you have to complete the process until "save for later", and update your code in your first comment :)
