Hungary needs to be expelled from the EU.

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Asap!
Such a stupid system. How is Ukraine unsuitable for EU and NATO membership until it passes some reforms and Hungary is a part of EU and NATO while actively sabotaging and hating on both?
Not one more € from EU funds should go to Hungary.
It is completely obvious that Orban is not an ally.
The EU is not an alliance, so not being an ally is a moot point.
Was that the sound of Putin unzipping?
Nah, we’re well past that point. That was the sound of orbán gagging.
Pretty sure Putin isn’t large enough to make any one gag. That must have been the sound of Orban faking it.
its always fucking Hungary. they should never been allowed into the EU the corrupt cunts
Either the Hungarian government isn't representing it's people and is instead deeply damaging their nation's relationships and future against their will, in which case their people need to elect a better government,
or it is representing the people, the people support Russia and hate the west, and must be expelled from the European Union, as they are a dangerous and damaging force trying to destroy it from within.
For young people, No. 1 is becoming pretty clear, although parents influence is a thing.
For a bit older people up to gen X, it's "yeah sure but the opposition isn't better" (which it is, but everyone is homophobic) or "playing two sides is smart" not realising how fucking cynical that is today.
For even older people, ie retirees, it's that Fidesz ramps up retirement pay close to every election like a pet-owner playing with their dogs.
Note that what is now the Opposition had a speech recorded in 2006, where the party Leader, Ferenc Gyurcsány, openly said "We have lied through the last eight years" and "We fucked this [very vulgar version]. Not a little, [we've fucked this] a lot". Orbán is obviously lying way more but he doesn't say it out loud (Or is smart enough not to get it recorded).
Can we just freeze every single cent of EU money going to Hungary?
What a fucking disgrace. And the guy just got 10bn out of the 30bn the EU held back. They should have just quickly voted on the aid together with ascension talks while Viktor the Pig was out of the room.
Hungary, whilst lead by an Orban government, is the enemy.
When a country becomes a fascist ally of an enemy country, shouldn't that justify removal from the EU? Can a country be removed from the EU? What is the process and why is it not happening?
You need everyone else in the EU to agree to remove them. Poland and Hungary sort of protect each other from EU consequences.
Poland has a very pro EU government led by Donald Tusk now.
Dream come true, hopefully they roll back all their bullshit right wing policies now.
They are certainly trying but PISs did a ton of damage to the democratic systems and also installed swathes of people in key positions that share their views.
I think by now Orban can simply make a referendum to join "mighty" mother Russia. It is pretty obvious which interests he is protecting in this case.
Huck Funguary
Is Poland still protecting Hungary from consequences?
Hopefully not with the new government
Sadly, Slovakia has a very Orban-like government now so sadly now it could be us who start shielding Hungary in EU.
Hungary should not be in the EU. Kick them out!
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Hungary has blocked €50bn ($55bn; £43bn) in EU aid for Ukraine hours after agreement was reached on starting membership talks.
"Summary of the nightshift: veto for the extra money to Ukraine," Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban posted on social media after talks in Brussels.
The aid blocking was announced by Mr Orban shortly after the EU leaders decided to open membership talks with Ukraine and Moldova and to grant candidate status to Georgia.
Mr Orban left the negotiating room momentarily in what officials described as a pre-agreed and constructive manner, while the other 26 leaders went ahead with the vote.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the EU decision on membership talks as "a victory" for his country and "Europe".
Commenting on Mr Orban's opposition to the aid, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said: "We still have some time, Ukraine is not out of money in the next few weeks."
The original article contains 244 words, the summary contains 149 words. Saved 39%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
Wait, wasn't there something a few years ago, where they couldn't bring up 4 or so billions?
Anyone wondering why Hungary is still in EU, it's probably because https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_7_of_the_Treaty_on_European_Union
