I don't understand why "stop fucking killing each other" is such a controversial statement.
Because many people don't see it that way. Many people see this more as a "stop defending yourself" statement.
In reality, this is a very difficult situation for everyone that can only end in one of two ways: listening to grievances on ALL sides and finding compromise (which usually results in no one getting what they want), or more bloodshed.
On a side note, I smell the implication that internal debate within a party, or changing policy in response to public sentiment is some kind of weakness. In reality, this is the healthiest manifestation of democracy. If someone can't respect that, then all I can say is they have no business calling themselves Canadian.

Nobody getting everything, while both sides get some things they want is the definition of compromise.
Until both sides stop being all in with the zero sum game approach, nothing will ever change.
I suspect the LPC, along with much of the neoliberal consensus in the developed world, really misread the tea leaves on this one.
They ran the usual playbook, only to have it blow up in their faces.
If it weren't for the human cost, it'd be interesting to see a few more of these missteps happen in hopes that the west finally learns that it can't sit back and just assume that the interests of the already-powerful intersect with the common good. Sadly, it looks like it'll take a lot more misery before our leaders grow a spine.
