@ernest

I just noticed a popup to translate a German Lemmy post on the mobile pwa, it worked amazing! Now I need to unblock all those German instances...

How can I change the language setting?

[–] Trebach@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

There's a dropdown at the bottom of the page and you can change the language of the UI there.

For posts/comments, use the dropdown next to the add button to select what language you're writing it in.

@Trebach

@ernest @madjo

For me "English" is selected in the drop-down at the bottom of the page but the UI is still using my native language. I'd like it to be in English but I don't know how.

@raoulvolfoni

Choose your native language first, then the language you want (in this case English)

Oooh this is so cool!

I started translating finnish language right away!

EDIT: 79 translations, 34 suggestions, 34 pending suggestions and 33 comments feels like heavy-duty for one session straight!

How to contribute to translations? I could help out for Romanian if needed.

[–] adrian@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You need a Codeberg account and can then translate right on https://translate.codeberg.org/projects/kbin/kbin/.

However, Romanian hasn't yet been added as a language to translate, too, and the "Start new translation" button is disabled. Maybe @ernest first needs to either add that language manually or can enable that button for everyone.

[–] IONLYpost@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

when will you start rolling out newly translated versions?

[–] ernest@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hey, next week. There is still the matter of changing one js library, and we need to determine the minimum percentage of progress at which translations should be released.

Hello. That's good news. Although yes, while some entries of terms like award vs badges are left undecided, which are pretty hard to differentiate from another for my language. I will finish one of them to 100% in the next couple of days. Probably with some temporary solutions. kbin is still changing afterall. Thanks for the reply.

Can locales of languages with alternate spellings be added? (i.e. English - United States, English - United Kingdom, etc.)

[–] KoreanPerson@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I am just commenting because I'd love to cooperate on a Czech translation of the project.

[–] RheingoldRiver@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Hello, there is a Czech translation in process! I believe you should be able to contribute at that link :)

Commenting here because I wouldn't know where else to do so.
I had my kbin set to Spanish (preferred it in English so Im glad I someone else asked how to change that), funny thing is, since yesterday I think, whenever language is set to Spanish the little legend next to the username that indicates how long ago something was posted was in Greek.
Or at least I think it's greek, since I don't read greek.

Upon switching language into English it got resolved, but if I turn it back to spanish, it reads in greek again
