Cool but isn’t it pretty customizable for free with a little bit of work?

[–] conciselyverbose@kbin.social 58 points 1 year ago

Sure, but the points don't buy anything real, so might as well use them if you like one.

[–] Winged_Hussar@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

Yup! This is just if you don't want to spend the effort / have nothing else to spend your points on.

It's still cool to have more official options, and all of these are pretty high quality.

[–] kherge@beehaw.org 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It is.

For me, personally, I would rather pick them up from the points store because of the lower friction to get them loaded on the Deck.

If you weren't aware, Decky Loader is a pretty great Steam Deck plugin loader that's easy to install and has a store interface where you can easily download and install new plugins. Of course, it includes a plugin for easily changing the start up animation.

I think I would too if the selection was more robust. I have all those points I’m not using.

Sorry, are you calling me a bot?

Or am I misunderstanding something?

I’ve bought every single one of the older ones and have them set to play a random one every time I boot up or wake from sleep. This is welcome news to me. :D

[–] shrodes@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is it true that they are variable length and slow down the boot / wake time?

[–] damopewpew@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

You can skip any of them just by pressing a button

The steam points shop is great

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I have literally never used these points shop. What does it even have in it?

[–] AndrasKrigare@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nothing particularly good, some stuff for your steam profile. I've only used the points on the startup movies and some keyboards

yeah that's kinda what I always figured

[–] Astronautical@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Profile themes, pfps, emotes, steam deck startups, among various other things. I wish you could use steam points for booster packs though.

[–] averyminya@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

I like the frames and mini profile themes for the friends panel. Gives my profile picture some movement and let's me change it up for the themes throughout the year.

[–] kerf@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Cool, I'll probably get Hades! I guess I'm not alone having more points than I can spend after buying the Steam Deck

They're nice and all, but City Night's still the best ;_;
