The All feed on both Hot and Active modes is exactly the same as it was most of a day ago, all the same posts in the same order, except they're all 12h+ old now. At first I thought federation might not be working due to overload, but on New posts are coming in all the time, both local and remote.

What's up?

I believe hot measures the most upvoted recent posts, and active measures the most commented. There were some massively upvoted and commented posts in the last day or two. Probably nothing is coming close to displacing them, and whatever the definition of "recent" is hasn't kicked in enough to push them down the rankings.

Switch to new or top day to see something more dynamic.

New and top day are also giving me the best results. There is more activity than ever, don't be discouraged by the subpar feed algorithm, that can get fixed soon enough

Top day is a good tip. Though I do think something is broken, seems too unlikely that this particular batch of shitposts is so uniquely hot it stays up all day when before the feed was moving quite fast

my sort of choice on jerboa is 'new comments'. it gives me a good mix of both new posts with no comments and posts with active discussion. keeps it pretty fresh.

If you mostly followed Lemmy.ml communities I think they’ve been getting slammed with traffic and it might be slowing things down.

change sorting to "hot"

[–] plum@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I think a lot of new users are coming in and interacting with the first post they see, which is usually the post at the top of the “hot” feed. In turn, this keeps the “hot” posts up longer because of the constant interaction.

I expect it’ll cycle through within the week once the blackout is up.
