My first one to flower is literally the most unexpected. I had bought several a few years back and I had a lot of root pieces left in the box. I dumped them in a corner of the chicken garden. They were doing super well and now the first to flower if from this “leftover bits” planting. Lol

Lesson here is plant every single piece!

Simply gorgeous! What other varieties do you have?

Thanks. Uh I have a few lol. Sarah Bernhardt, Red Charm, a fern leaf one without a name (that was a gift), festiva maxima, Karl Rosen field, Duchess of something and a dark red one I can’t remember the name. I think that’s all 😅

Okay @bowreality@lemmy.ca is bit of a collector huh ? Nice. What’s the trick to growing peonies?

A bit of a collector of all plants haha. Well at least that grow here. I am in Canada zone 3. Trick? Plop then in and wait (that’s the hard part!)

Gorgeous! I’m definitely planting some at my new place. I’ve gone too many years without them, because my last house felt too temporary to plant something that takes a few years to really get going.

Oh do! They are really easy and literally don’t do anything for them here. They also get really really old. 30 years easy but I also have heard stories of 70 year old peonies!
