By rewatch, I'm referring to an organized groupwatch where we watch a previously released anime on a certain schedule and discuss our thoughts in individual posts. It's from r/anime, yes, but I think it could be a good thing to have here, particularly as a way for people to get to know each other.

Would people here be interested in this? If so, are there any anime that you'd be particularly interested in (re)watching?

I think it sounds cool, I've never done one myself but I'd be down to try. I don't know how viable it'd be till more communities fill out. On the flip side if nothing is started and we don't make content, we'll never amass the community to do it. Maybe try other things that don't require as large a community to do? That way a community could be grown up until the point where that's feasible. I'm not too sure myself, but I'm open to see what others have to say. Hopefully the anime community on this platform can become something truly special as time goes on.

Like I mentioned before, I'll start with a short movie-based rewatch before going into something more extensive. I'm also going to be waiting a bit before that, maybe until July or August, see how popular we get.

Sounds smart! I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully we can all make Lemmy a damn good platform, together.

I always liked reading along with the /r/anime rewatches, but never got around to really actively participate in them, partly due to lack of time and partly due to different timezones meaning that my comments would come pretty late to the discussion. Also a lot of commenters wrote these really long and elaborate texts, it was honestly almost intimidating.

That being said, this is a different, still much smaller community, and the bar for visibility is lower. I think it would work with an adapted format, like one parent post per rewatch with toplevel comments per episode. The default post sorting on Lemmy takes into account comment activity, so such posts wouldn't drop off the "front page" too quickly and not clutter the community either.

There was some discussion about doing airing show discussions in that format, but the counter argument was avoiding spoilers for people who are not caught up. But for rewatches, I don't see that being so much of an issue. In fact, keeping all spoilers for one show in a single post could even be an advantage.

Same for me. I also like the idea of bringing rewatches to lemmy.

Maybe it would be a good idea to start of with movies or short OVAs to test the waters? It would be a smaller commitment for participants.

I was thinking of starting with movies, perhaps 2 to 4 over a couple of weeks.

Sounds like a good idea. Over on r/anime there is usually an interest thread followed by an announcement thread and then the actual rewatch thread. Given the small scope of this community right now I think an interest thread would be overkill.

The best option might be for those interested in hosting a rewatch to just go straight to the announcement. Those interested in participating can than chime in.

The announcement should probably contain:

  • The title we are watching (duh)
  • links to MAL and AniList
  • a synopsis
  • date (I recommend adding the time in UTC format so everyone can quickly figure out the time for their own timezone.)

Maybe the mods could sticky post a short rewatch 101?

Beyond that we can always make improvements later.

I think that format of one singular post and different levels for each episode would work since, with a rewatch, it's assumed you've caught up with that episode, plus it means it wouldn't be as clogged.
