Like everything else, it's just fragile masculinity. They heard soy has estrogen (it does, but not in the same form that would affect you), but lack the ability to verify facts or understand nuance, so they just assume soy feminizes a person. They take that as an attack on their manhood. Then they get stupid and violent... well... stupider.
Batman does provide a safe space, thats his whole thing. He makes Gotham safer. And you could argue his reluctance for murder is almost non-violence.

It's a term that's been used by Healthcare advocates when talking specifically about prenatal care and abortion. It's because it's a, ya know, valuable term when women as a group includes those who can't become pregnant and it also doesn't include everyone who could become pregnant (transmen).
And it's specifically NOT a term to replace women. It's a different group entirely.
