I tried to browse my community from other instances, but got 404: Couldnt find community error. What do I need to do to have said community visible from other instances?

Hey neighbour(Greek here)!

The way federation works, is that although federation is enabled the actual communities are not automatically broadcasted to other instances. If you want your newly created community to be visible to other instances you have to manually add it there by following these steps:

  1. Copy the link of you own community. (i.e. https://lemmy.ml/c/greece for mine)
  2. Find the instance you it to be visible in (i.e. beehaw.org for you)
  3. Go to /communities in that instance
  4. Paste your link in the search bar and press Enter. There will be no results but don't worry, it worked.
  5. Delete the link from search bar and now type the name of the community (i.e. Turkey for you) and press enter.

You should now be able to see the community there.

Unfortunately each community has to be manually indexes in every instance but I think lemmy.directory is trying to index everything so people can find stuff easier, in there.

To add to this, new posts, comments and votes are only actively pulled in as soon as they're up if at least 1 person on the instance is subscribed.

Each instance's All feed is a pretty good snapshot of what the users there are subscribed to because of this :P

Or you could be a madlad like Https://lemmy.directory and have a bot that subscribes to literally every sub it can find

Turkey. I tried browsing it through multiple instances, which none work. You can see it from lemmy.ml ( https://lemmy.ml/c/turkey ), but not from https://beehaw.org/c/turkey@lemmy.ml

Well Beehaw doesn't allow custom communities (and also blocks you if you're from different instances), so you shouldn't use Beehaw.

As for your community, I can't access it by entering https://burggit.moe/c/turkey@lemmy.ml

Is it perhaps an option you missed in your community settings? Maybe it needs time to update? No clue.

There's no such option visible on community settings, at least to my knowledge

I recommend changing Language to English if you want the most users. Could be the solution?

Tried that, still not accessible from the link you gave. Very weird

Perhaps give it a good day for it to load? If not, you can try contacting the admins
