I think Checo has done just enough to secure second place in the standing. Assuming P1 is blocked by Max for the remaining two races, that's only 38 possible points for Lewis. He's 32 behind currently. Checo just has to not pull another Mexico and score 7 points in two races. And that's not even accounting for other drivers like Lando that are likely to steal points from Lewis.
He'd only have to equal Hamilton on points to be ahead, so 6 points assuming Max or someone other than Hamilton wins the races. Perez has more race wins (2 to 0).
True. The fact that we're even having to do the math is ridiculous, he should be easily 100+ points ahead.
I do not follow Formula 1, I just stumbled across this post browsing the main page. Why does the person in 1st have twice as many points as the next runner up? Is this a quirk of how Formula 1 scoring is done or did they actually just win by that much?
1st gets 25 points, second gets 18 per race. He consistently won nearly every race this season whereas second place was less consistent.
This is the most dominant season in decades, so yup it's actually THAT far and away
As others have said, Max has just been dominant this year and his teammate Checo has done well but been wildly inconsistent.
Guy in third is Lewis Hamilton (7 time world champion) who started the season with a terrible car that the team has upgraded throughout the year to be an ok car so heโs fought his way to third.
A big talking point in the sport right now is if Checo (2nd place) keeps his job next year based on his inconsistent performance, rumor is that heโs out if he doesnโt at least keep second place by end of this year.
2 races left, Las Vegas in a couple weeks on the 19th midnight central standard time, and then Abu Dhabi on the 26th 7am central standard time. Qualifying for both is on the Saturday before, all of it is aired on espn if youโre American.
I am curious to see how Alonso, Norris and Sainz pans out in the final standings. Also surprised Stroll is still in the top ten.
Gasly has only one point less than Stroll. He could still slip out of the top10.

I sure wish I hadn't listened to a preseason stuff, and just thrown a bet on them because I'm a fan. Can't imagine what the odds would have been back then. Especially Lando 4th in driver.

There's 2 races remaining, so a maximum of 26*2 = 52 points. Alonso is 60 points behind Perez. So yes.
