Let them rawdog that particulate. It's not a COVID situation where them being maskless could affect me. This is totally fine with me. Go forward conservatives. Take a deeeeep breath.

Except when they clog up hospitals with lung cancer, emphysema and COPD en masse. Now it's everyone's problem.

Unless someone can convince them that healthcare is the work of their boogeyman du jour and they should stay home and suffocate like a real man. Then we're golden. Hey, Fox News, I have an idea for you...

Except when they clog up hospitals with lung cancer, emphysema and COPD en masse. Now it’s everyone’s problem.

That's a fair point.

getting lung cancer to own the libs

[–] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 year ago

Ayn Rand would be proud of them.

People who refused to wear a mask during Covid pissed me off, because they were helping spread the disease and getting others sick. This time, I don’t care nearly as much. Their idiocy isn’t endangering my friends and family.

[–] dust4ngel@beehaw.org 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i think the idiocy is still dangerous, insofar as it continues to politicize the use of masks, which will exacerbate future pandemics/flu seasons/etc.

[–] alyaza@beehaw.org 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i do have to agree here: as funny as it is to watch conservatives do things that kill them, the issue is a lot of people who aren't conservatives can still be influenced by them or their rhetoric into helping severely undercut a lot of public health measures. a lot of liberals and moderates also don't mask anymore for stuff like the flu (even though flu season was demonstrably lessened by doing so) because that was so tied to COVID stuff that now looks overbearing. a lot of that stigma was made possible by conservative rhetoric

[–] HappyMeatbag@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

There will always be people who are victims of rhetoric and end up creating problems for others. I expect problems in the future, but for now, I’m glad the rhetoric isn’t hurting the people I care about most.

Dear conservatives: if you want to go out and breath smoke directly into your lungs for no other reason than because its your right, go the fuck ahead. If you all die before those of us who care about our health more than talking points and religious values, we would all be better off as a species. That is all.

[–] rusticus@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

Yeah, but I don't want to pay for their ER visits and expensive pulmonary meds and oxygen for COPD. Personal responsibility and all...

[–] alyaza@beehaw.org 22 points 1 year ago

not gonna lie, it strikes me as pretty bad that one of our largest media outlets freely has hosts who say things like this:

JEANINE PIRRO (CO-HOST): While Americans choke on the smoke, the far left smells an opportunity. AOC thinks this is a great time to push her Green New Deal. She says that we must, quote, "Adapt our food systems, energy grids, infrastructure, and healthcare to prepare for what's to come." Other Democrats are pumping up climate hysteria and bringing back, you guessed it, mask insanity.

[–] orbit@beehaw.org 20 points 1 year ago

From the party of "personal responsibility".

Like okay, just don't wear yours and let my personal responsibility start and end with my person.

[–] socphoenix@midwest.social 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Do... do they think they don't need their lungs?

[–] alyaza@beehaw.org 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it's increasingly clear that the Republican consensus on basically all science is now total nihilism and a level of radical individualism that would make libertarians blush. previously, this was really only reserved for burning fossil fuels for them—but now it doesn't seem impossible some Republicans will start saying shit like germ theory is a hoax because of how far gone the whole premise is. it'd be funny if it didn't have very real, horrifying health consequences for everyone.

[–] Kichae@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Oh, I've seen active germ theory denial in the past 3 years. A fair bit of it, in fact. And a considerable amount more than when I used to regularly drudge conspiracy forums back 15 - 20 years ago.

[–] HappyMeatbag@beehaw.org 9 points 1 year ago

Real conservatives don’t trust science.

[–] solargeek 16 points 1 year ago

I don't think anyone should be surprised by this after all that we saw during the pandemic. This is just another instance of trying to weaponize idiots.

[–] Butterbee@beehaw.org 13 points 1 year ago

This meme has never been more apt. Except for the entire pandemic. https://imgur.com/a/qTkwtvB

In other news, attention seeker says something outrageous to seek attention.

[–] iam8bitwolf@beehaw.org 10 points 1 year ago

I said that they were gonna do this as a joke to a friend in Baltimore, because we all thought this would be so ridiculous. Leave it to reality to be the bigger comedian.

Seriously though, you can see the smoke. If you put a mask on, you can taste and feel that there's less shit going into your lungs. How do they come up with this

[–] QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 year ago

In the 70s she would have called it insane to put on seat belts.
