The world was never the same since 2013.

The year when flattening user interfaces and subscription models for software being the only option became a fact of life.

Oh my god please tell me this isn’t how Elon came up with his brilliant app idea 🤦‍♂️

C: "What if everything was a sh: segmentation fault ./a.out

[–] 257m@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why would it calling the sh program? When I segfault it just says Segmentation Fault: core dumped. Maybe its because I use bash?

[–] callyral@pawb.social 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

it depends on the segfault, i just used an example segfault shown in geeksforgeeks, in zsh it says zsh: segmentation fault \ for the first one so i changed it to sh for the comment

It's true!

Node: What if everything was JavaScript?
Rust: What if everything was safe?
Lisp: What if everything was parenthesised?
React: What if everything was hell?
Malbolge: What if everything was unreadable?
VB6: What if everything was shit?

Actually, I think that last one applies to more than just VB6...

Idk man, monero seems pretty legit to me. Bought food with it off monero market lately

[–] DingoBilly@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Amazing. You paid a bunch of conversion fees, went through multiple loopholes and managed to get food from a market!

Truly incredibly technology, I don't know how I could do the same without the use of crypto! I usually just get the food without loopholes or fees. So much more convenient having to do a bunch of extra steps.

Next you'll say you managed to send some money overseas! Wow, wouldn't that be amazing if we could do that via traditional banking systems?

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

bunch of conversion fees

One actually, and it was less than a 1/10th of a penny.

with no loopholes or fees Lol do what? Sales tax is hundreds of times higher than a priority transaction alone, and what loophole? You literally put in the receiving address and how much you are wanting to send, it's that simple. Markets have escrow so your funds don't get stolen either.

Hell, even debit doesn't have that. Once funds are gone, they are truly gone.

managed to send some money overseas, amazing if we could do that via yadda yadda

Look buddy, first off, no taxes, second off, neither the government nor any banking entity doesn't know what it is you're buying.

It's almost as if monero achieved what cryptocurrency originally set out to accomplish. XMR is not a shitcoin, it's stable and it is used as an actual currency. Sorry you can't wrap your head around it, I've been using XMR as an actual currency since nearly the inception.

If you don't like it, fine, you can keep your cope and taxable, trackable fiat, and I'll keep a currency that is actually sane.

[–] DingoBilly@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Great! When I'm looking at selling child porn, dealing drugs or just turn into a conspiracy nut I'll look into it. Sounds like it'll be useful then.

Otherwise happy to just pay the same convenient way everyone else does without worrying about the value of my currency changing significantly like crypto does.

HODL on brother, maybe XMR can recover from a few years ago. Just remember to get your 3 friends to get another 3 friends to invest each and it's bound to go to the moon!

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

muh hate monero because illegal activities

You literally just ignored what I said. Also, CP can literally be found on the regular internet for free, it's one of the reasons 8chan originally got shut down.

value of my currency changing significantly like crypto does

XMR is a stable coin, also that's a lie because inflation.

HODL on brother

No thanks. XMR is a currency, not a stock. I do not support shit like DOGE for instance because it has no utility, XMR has a utility.

If you think that the total invasion of your privacy through digital means is a conspiracy, we cannot further continue this conversation. Your phone is literally a tracking device that is listening and pinging your location 24/7, your smart home devices are all listening to try and figure out what you are willing to buy to conglomerate data together and sell it to literally anyone who will buy it.

Again, sorry you have a hate fetish against XMR but like I said, that's your choice. I'll continue to use XMR for anything I can because it is a mission I believe in. If I genuinely thought it was a sham, I wouldn't use it.

[–] Franzia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Monero is like, what crypto was sold to us as. Private.

[–] 257m@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Unless you frequent the darknet there is no need to use it. Most people are not buying fent off dread. I wish it would atleast overtake some of the worse cryptocurrencies in usage.

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Nobody is buying fent off dread because dread is not a marketplace.

It's not about a need to use it either, it is about a choice to. You have a right to freedom and privacy, monero allows both of those things. Illegal purchases happen with fiat as well, cash is only trackable when it is caught in your hands.

[–] cricket98@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i don't think crypto has ever been sold as "private" given how literally the entire chain is public. With that being said, there are trustless privacy protocols built on top of bitcoin and ethereum

[–] Franzia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago

Go read about Monero.
