From my understanding of how ActivityPub works in general - correct me if I'm wrong - someone would need to follow your instance on a remote one for it to start showing up to anyone on the other instances. That said, I've joined, and hi!

How would someone subscribe to your instance if they can't see it in the first place?
jonah explained how, but the why is often not well understood:
They're completely separate websites, just with the ability to forward content along to other sites if those other sites request it. The sites themselves are set up to only request content streams if a user has made a specific request for it, and the way that request system has been set up is through the search features.
So, you have to tell one site to please request content from this other page here, please (and then set me to follow it).
To be honest, cross-instance communities are kinda screwy sometimes. It's a known bug. I have a list of communities I'm waiting to sub to when they finally stop 404ing. lol They usually just randomly work eventually.
But your sub is now on my list! It's not showing up yet for me, but I love PZ.
I made it for the June 12 blackout.
I recently just started up lemmy.ml/c/ps5 and I made sure to use my lemmy.one and kbin.social accounts to subscribe to it so it'll show up there.
midwest.social/c/projectzomboid is showing up on my instance.
I'm assuming it takes longer for some instances to see it than others because I'm able to see other communities from it.
Edit: I can only see like one other
yesterday i made a weightlifting comm on ml and could not find it via lemmy-one until around 24 hours later.
Okay, good to know
