I know, it's great!

[–] Titou@feddit.de 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

And what's wrong with that ?

[–] refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Too much collaboration and respecting other people, not enough rugged individualism and walking over other people to get ahead.

and thoses software have less security or performance issues than the closed ones

That's no fun. I love me some security flaws.

Besides that tragic accident (fuck alcohol) and with all due respect: That guy has his priorities completely messed up.

The moment he got trampled on for asking for support he should have dropped that project. Into a deep, deep pit. Probably would have been hired in an instant for a lot of cash to continue to maintain it under the direction of one of the FAANGs.

[–] rikudou@lemmings.world 13 points 10 months ago

I mean, yeah, he has, but it's still sad, because his library is used by half the internet and yet he can't afford a lawyer.

If it was me, I'd say "fuck it" the moment it would get in my way, but I guess I'm less of an idealist than the dude is.

Maintaining Open Source without being paid by a company to do so is terrible. I made a few Open Source projects and never will I do it again. I do contribute a fix or something every once in a while if the issue really annoys me in my usage, but I will never again take any active role in an open source project.

People take your work for free and then attack you for not doing everything they ask for, equally for free. It's just not sustainable.

Jokes on you. Being dumping priced and open is my fetish.

I gnash my teeth and cry into my pillow every night because I'm not being data harvested by Microsoft. I open my taskbar and wail, for there are no ads to be displayed.

Linux. Not even once.

That's a weird way to say a better alternative.
