Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

Android 12 fucking sucks. There's this new "feature" where you can no longer go into app defaults and manually define what urls can be opened by which apps. There are "verified links" now which means nothing other than your browser gets to open shit.

When someone posts a link to a lemmy url, that means I can never open it in jeroba. It always opens in my web browser. This significantly reduces the overall usability of the app.

Is there any way around this? I'm one of the lucky few to have an unlocked bootloader phone so maybe I can get an older rom but I wish there was another way.

Take a look at Open With. Set it as your browser and inside define what uses which app to open urls.

I was under the impression that in the app info settings you could do this. Tap and hold the app icon until a menu pops up and then tap the "i" in a circle. This brings you to the settings app and that apps info where you can change permissions, etc

Open supported links is on by default in Jerboa's settings (at least it is in mine), it's just getting overridden by Android 12. You need to manually approve each link, or else it automatically sends to your default browser.

I still don't understand how "verified links" works, other than it doesn't, but if you select the "Add link" button, it should show the links the app specifies support for.

The button will be greyed out if there are none that can be added however.

The app included 8 links when I checked it.

Not quite related, but I've heard that if you can find your phone's firmware for Android 11 in addition to a rom for 11, perhaps on XDA, you could attempt to revert it. I was unable to find reliable information on this and didn't want to risk my phone bricking though.

One workaround for this would be to make Jerboa add a new share action which would open the link in the app, this way you could long press any links you see and send them to Jerboa.
