Summary

  • ๐Ÿ“… At the start of October, Colossal Order increased the minimum and recommended requirements for City Skylines 2.
  • โš ๏ธ Two weeks later, they admitted they had not achieved the performance benchmarks they targeted, but promised continuous improvement.
  • ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Concerns arise about whether budget and mid-range hardware can provide a satisfactory gaming experience.
  • ๐Ÿ’ป The video creator purchased various hardware to test the game's performance and provide insights on necessary upgrades.
  • ๐ŸŽฎ Initial tests show that older and budget cards can achieve 30 FPS on low settings, while high-end cards can reach 30 FPS on high settings.
  • ๐Ÿ“Š 1% lows were significantly better on high settings for some cards, and disabling Vsync improved overall performance.- ๐Ÿ”„ Resizable BAR should be enabled in the BIOS for a 10% performance boost on compatible CPUs and GPUs.

I wasn't able to watch the video but did check out the document with all testing results, and it seems that the highest performing setup he got was with a 3080ti and even then he was unable to hit 60fps

Itโ€™s a city sim, not a FPSโ€ฆ I think I agree when he says in the video that 30 fps is all you really need. Lower than that does hurt, but higher doesnโ€™t really help that much.

That said, yes, the game needs more optimizing. Iโ€™m not really worried that it wonโ€™t be though. I do feel like the current release date is kinda early access-esq though.
