Fuck capitalism and useless goverments

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

financing a pizza was the last straw

[–] drathvedro@lemm.ee 14 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Rest easy. We are unlikely to ever explore space, and even if we do, it wouldn't be anything like what science fiction is portraying.

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 9 points 11 months ago

We are exploring space, just with robots instead of people, sending robots is cheaper

[–] tryptaminev@feddit.de 3 points 11 months ago

because it would be fierce, fancy and frisky Embrace FALGSC!

[–] Kedly@lemm.ee 12 points 11 months ago (2 children)

With the explosion of tech currently, and where we are with anti aging tech, theres a non zero chance we might not have been born too soon to explore space

[–] the_seven_sins@feddit.de 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

… assuming you can afford it.

[–] Kedly@lemm.ee -2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

Originally we wont be, but as it becomes older tech it'll likely become available to us

Edit: Lmao, a bunch of you WANT our future to be shit it seems. Whatever floats your goat I guess

[–] pythonoob@programming.dev 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nah. That's the one things that the rich and powerful will absolutely keep for themselves above all else. You can't have a long lived peasantry. They need to be hard workers that can only barely enjoy what time they have and be grateful for it.

[–] Kedly@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

Sure, the powerful will want to keep it to themselves, but so did the nobles in the medieval ages. Eventually those with decent intentions luck out into positions of power and are able to spread some of that hoarded power to those who were previously denied. Our power solidification and disparity has acted like waves with high tides and low tides throughout our history. When enough power gets hoarded, those societies stagnate, allowing societies that were behind them and willing to take risks to shoot ahead of them displacing the old powers, and then the cycle repeats

I dont have any specific articles to link, but over the last few years I've seen a articles here and there about research that's showing promise in not necessarily extending our lives, but making more of the last few years of them more enjoyable and useful. So thats what influenced the anti aging tech part of my comment, the technology explosion part? The tech I am using right now (My cellphone) is functionally magic to even my 10 year old self. I have adopted family on the opposite end of the planet, that doesnt speak the same language as me, and yet I can effectively communicate with them within seconds using a device connected to nothing

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You're 10 years old and are adopting people?

[–] Kedly@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

They adopted me. I did a volunteer program in a developing country and lived with this family for 3 months. When I had a falling out with my bio family, this family let me know that they consider me their son/brother/family. Also I'm 30

Edit: Lol how fragile do you have to be for this clarification to be enough to upset you?

[–] tryptaminev@feddit.de 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

and our ape brains havent developed considerably in the past few thousand years.

i'm highly sceptical of any anti ageing technology simply for the fact, that most old people become insane and most middle aged people lack the mental flexibility to deal with the current fast paced world.

Whats getting 500 years old worth for, if you just move from sausage to vegetable to pile of nuclear waste emitting random signals for 400 of these 500 years?

[–] Kedly@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

Not everyone goes senile in old age, but yeah, a significant amount of people do. But our tech is slowly helping with that as well

[–] Guntrigger@feddit.ch 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

We truly would be in a Star Trek style utopia if the ruling class weren't stacked with insatiable greed.

[–] Kedly@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

My hope is we'll get there eventually, evolution bred some traits into us that arent fully compatible with future utopias, but we'll fix that over time

Lol

You think we're going to colonize space?! We can't even agree to feed and house the humans here, and not because we lack the resources but because the economy requires scarcity to increase private profit. We can't even agree to stop destroying our only world to continue to profit a relatively small group of sociopaths who already have enough for 50 lifetimes.

We are a solidly type 0 civilization. We're far more likely to keep beating each other to death in the dirt over who gets the most capital until we destroy ourselves. Maybe if we eventually alter our genetics through technologies like CRISPR to weed out our most vile, least social impulses like insatiable greed, selfishness, low intellect, and violence, then maybe those people will be able to stop undermining eachother long enough to establish a presence outside this rock.

But then we'll no longer be human, which I'm more than fine with because we're trash but most humans seem to think we're worth a damn despite 10,000 years of recorded history proving otherwise.

[–] Tranus@programming.dev 10 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

I have a metal cup on my desk. This cup used to be a rock. Humans took that rock, and placed it into an environment specifically tailored to remove just the molecules we want from it. It was melted, using temperatures far exceeding what a human could survive. It was formed into a sheet, then pressed into shape, using tools specifically crafted for that one purpose. It was painted with a compound not naturally found anywhere on earth, because someone thought it should be green. It was packaged in organic compounds carefully formulated and shaped through hundreds of processes to ensure it couldn't be damaged on its trip to the other side of the planet. All of this for a cup. Why? Because it's slightly more comfortable to drink out of. A problem that wouldn't even register with any other living thing, solved with efforts far beyond their capabilities. And that is our closest competitor.

Humanity has accomplished more in the last hundred years, hell even the last ten, than anything else on earth (or beyond, for all we know) ever has. Yeah, war, greed, and racism are a thing, but it hasn't stopped us before, and won't stop us now. You are comparing real people to some idealized fantasy. A fantasy that only seems attainable because of what we have already accomplished, not in spite of it.

We only aspire to do better because we know what we are capable of.

[–] Jank@literature.cafe 3 points 11 months ago

Sure, that sounds pretty impressive, but without another sentient civilization to compare to, how do we know we're really doing all that great?

We might be the special education class in the universe.

[–] HughJanus@lemmy.ml 7 points 11 months ago

You think we're going to colonize space?! We can't even agree to feed and house the humans here

Well they're going to leave the unfed and unhoused behind, obvi

[–] nodsocket@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Sounds like you're hungry. Go finance a pizza

[–] M137@lemm.ee 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Exploring space via all the cool science, sci-fi movies and games is good enough. Also, tripping balls.

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 9 points 11 months ago (2 children)

You don't even want to know how good future drugs are.

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I want Mek from the Wayfarer's series. It's basically anti-coffee. A nice hot cut of relaxation. I like to imagine it as drinking a massage

[–] kttnpunk@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Maybe try a warm cup of chamomile and/or poppy tea?

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago

Or a glass of heroin?

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 months ago

You prefer Can-D or Chew-Z?

[–] rostby@lemmy.fmhy.net 7 points 11 months ago

If there is a future

[–] Fixbeat@lemmy.ml 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Dominoes, ouch. Marcos yes, what is the interest rate?

[–] Artyom@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

"My preferred megacorp is superior to your preferred megacorp!" Hail megacorp!

[–] Fixbeat@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I only worship mega corps that make a decent pizza.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 2 points 11 months ago

Then why talk about Marco's?

[–] Spaghetti_Hitchens@kbin.social 1 points 11 months ago

I need a company that combines Marcos pizza, Pizza Huts cheese sticks, and Dominos loaded tots

[–] FatTony@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

Just steal it at that point.
