What benefits does it have over NewPipe / NewPipe + SponsorBlock?
Music
A community to share the music worth sharing.
Logging in to your account with all it implies: Being able to like and comment, history shared across devices, subscriptions (although there's ways to import your subscriptions into NewPipe but it's hacky), recommendations, etc. If you want this, NewPipe won't do it as it has no way to log in. Many people don't anyway, but a lot do.
From my experience, none. I tried it and stuck with newpipe. I guess if you really want to use the actual youtube frontend, then theres that
I also stick with NewPipe, as it is fully libre. Vanced/ReVanced were just mods to the proprietary YouTube app.
It doesn't fuck up once a month.
And those download links are from who? Anyway here is github page from ReVanced team https://github.com/revanced. Download links from OP are kinda sus
Yeah I agree, but the trouble is you can't just download from github. You have to also download YouTube from google (and a specific older version at that) and then use ReVanced to modify - and that's if it even works for you. This creates a barrier to entry that many people just won't bother with.
Agree, but just like OP said "there is a potential risk of downloading a malicious version of the app" how do i know if links for download are safe, i could just give you this link (https://revanced-apks.pages.dev/) from r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH and say they work for me best... I am just saying people need to be more careful what they are downloading and not trusting some random people from internet including ME
Absolutely, you're not wrong. I was mainly commenting on the install process being a negative of ReVanced.
I am not quite sure, but i believe if they publish APKs they will probably get shut down by Google and this is reason why they choose this way of installing
Yeah revanced is nice. Its a bit more involved to use than vanced was but it does its job well
if it ever ends up on f-droid
It can't go on FDroid because it uses Google code. You have to download the official YouTube app and then use ReVanced to modify it.
ah, well newpipe works well enough
...go on.
i might consider...
Rather than these links get the manager and patch the YT app directly, that will also give you a bunch of options of how you want it, you will likely need to downgrade the app to a version better suited for patching, usually not the latest, at this time i believe it's still 18.05.40. Hate linking to Reddit here but at this time this might be the best guide for the process, wish it wasn't there.
Yes.
Just remember the creators do not distribute a premade apk. They only provide the tools to make one yourself. If you download a premade apk it is not official and could be messed with. With that being said I have been using it for over a year and have had nothing happen to the google account that was logged in. It is super easy to make your own apk my wife make her own in about 5 min with me only sending her to the official repo.
