They literally took the gold provinces- all the gold provinces that have generated in south america this run as far as I can find, and nothing else. Kinda looks like open wounds or something else gross with that combination of map colors.

Huh. I was thinking those would be cores or claims maybe, and they had to relinquish the rest from other lost wars or something.

Gold mines is a little weirder.

I mean, why own the gold provinces when you can just pirate the gold fleets on their way home?

Nope, GB never colonized any part of S. America in this run, so unless they get some claims from missions or something it isnt that. But the gold mines thing is pretty blatant. I know colonizer AIs often end up wanting all the gold mines in the world for some reason based on vital interest markers, but I usually see them like, at least try to take coastlines and other stuff to actually reach them, too
