Tonight is my first night home alone in my life. I've been alone heaps in the day, but never overnight before. Pretty exciting, yet terrifying at the same time though

I'm thinking keeping busy until I go to sleep will help, so I guess tonight is cleaning night (shamefully overdue 😭)

β€˜Peel here’ is the biggest scam in the food products industry. Why do they troll us so.

Sick kitty is having a bad day. It's so hard to watch, but there's nothing to be done, we've made him extra comfy today, so hopefully that helps a little. I think the time is looming ever larger at the moment, I hate to accidentally prophecise, but I don't think he'll be stealing prawns this Christmas.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I’m very sorry to hear it. Perhaps a prawn could appear early this year for sir πŸ’”

Always nice to wake up to a kitty who is more interested in relentless headbutting than food.

Also the last 'wedding' surprise dropped. Have to do some cooking for 8 people. Bro + SIL + her family are dropping around after their little tour around the surf coast to pick up the cat tomorrow. Think I'll just do veg spring rolls.

Let's see it's going to be 29 tomorrow then a top of 14 on Wednesday. It's clear that Melbourne has no intention of letting us acclimatise.

I just passed a certificate exam woohooooo I was so stressed about passing, not because of the cost of it, but because of the shame it would bring. I'd have had to tell my team, and other colleagues, and my family. But added benefit is that I will get the exam fees fully reimbursed!! WINNING already today!!!

Omg. This might be a little tmi but it makes a good story. This is what happens when you teach your kid good manners.

All via text.
Her: These dumplings are so good
Me: That's good
A little while later
Her: HELP I HAD A POO AND IT LEFT SKID MARKS. WHAT DO I DO?
Me: Wipe off as much as you can with toilet paper
Her: IT'S INSIDE THE WATER
Then I get sent a picture of a toilet complete with offending marks.
Me: Where are you?
Her: At the dumpling place
Me: Leave it. Run. Don't forget to wash your hands
Her: OK
Me: ok

She wouldn't mind me tell yous this because she has a great sense of humour.

Most restaurant toilets I've been to have a toilet brush but when they don't it is indeed cover-your-face-with-hoodie mortifying. Godspeed to your daughter's reputation.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

I know for a fact if there was a brush she would've used it. When the picture was loading I thought "dear God I do not need to see soiled underwear" I was ready to tell her to "abandon them".

Massive hunger incoming again but my hosts will be away for dinner and I can eat leftovers with abandon. And I have bought a little instant noodle cup for extra snacks. And maybe tomorrow I will get some groceries while I'm out and about. They'll be out for dinner again so I might make some dins for myself and extra for them. Fried rice maybe. But first I'll check if they're okay with my using their kitchen. I know some people are picky about this stuff.

E: I'm overhearing one of them talk to a friend of theirs on the phone,

bla bla blaexplaining positive reinforcement and how to stop being so unnecessarily harsh and critical of their slightly hyperactive and constantly inquisitive grandson, and how to celebrate and support him instead so that he naturally adjusts (I met this kid too and sat and played with him for a while). And to be more realistic about their own parenting successes and failures. And how to have good relationships with adult children who were difficult when young, how to have healthy but respectful boundaries with them when they have their own children and decide to raise them a different way...

Hearing her explain it in a way my parents generation and cultural background can understand, and skilfully countering resistance ("isn't that spoiling the kid", "these are just western things") is making my heart melt and also a bit emotional for what I never had with my own family growing up... It's very surprising because in a number of other ways this lady is quite uptight and conservative. I know she's one of the few people my mum makes an effort to stay in touch with, maybe someday I could suggest that my mum talk to her about her own continuing conflicts ...

Aaaaaaaagh.

Family dinner degenerated into fight, again. Dad picked his side, again, and it isn’t me.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

Had to make a decision on what to feed the 8 people coming tomorrow.

It will be marathon dim sims (heh) with homemade hawt chilli salt and sauce, soy sauce sprinkled w/ home chilli flakes. half deep fried, half steamed. Maybe a sneaky sausage roll.

my mind is at rest.

Werribee gorge hike this morning. Damn it's pretty and slightly taxing on the legs.

Also when making pizzas for dinner today I mixed some harrisa paste into the pizza sauce.

It was divine.

The op shop was still open! managed to score a Gorman linen jumpsuit for $13 - I love looking up the things I buy from op-shops to see how much it cost originally and this one was $250!

What a beautiful day. In the words of Dusty Springfield I just don't know what to do with myself 🎢

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Treating myself to a cafe brekkie nearby. The coffee is unsurprisingly blah but the food is affordable! $10 for a decent slice of housemade quiche with goats cheese, spinach, asparagus and local mushrooms, a decent serving of baby spinach leaves and a nice tomato chutney. And this is an out of the way place in a fancy suburb. Wouldn't find that in Melbourne I think.

Neighbour just texted me the following 'Hey man, feel like drinking?'

He's kind of loaded and has a fine selection of booze. See y'all next time.

Fuck it, I'm starting daylight savings early. It's now 5:30. What even is time anyway, I'll make up my own time zone.

Nice day out there. I'm going to see how much digging/brick removal I can get in before the sun gets too strong and/or I collapse from exhaustion.

Aww man, just saw Michael Gambon has passed. Just rewatched Wives and Daughters and Perfect Strangers, and both his performances were brilliant. I especially loved his take on The Squire, he played the hidden depths of that character and captured his relationship with Molly perfectly.

I feel like going out because it’s mid-autumn festival and staying in doesn’t feel right. I think I will have ramen with fried chicken in the city.

As much as I like online shopping you're absolutely nuts if you don't go into JB hi-fi in person and ask what they can do on price, particularly on any accessories. Discount every time.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I find JB hi-fi to be such a horrible place to shop I'd rather pay more just to avoid having to go anywhere near the place.

I've been watching telly pretty much my whole life

and yet I still have trouble understanding so many tv shows or movies I see.

Like the Singing Detective. Over the space of years I had watched it 4 times and even read the teleplay. Only when I noticed Philip's different fictional narratives had the same themes did I figure it out.

Anyone else watch stuff and have no clue?

Exercises were completed earlier and then we went to the beach. We love going to Altona beach (I grew up around there so it's familiar old turf to me and the kids love it). At the last minute, after a miscommunication between Mr Peeler and I, we ended up at Williamstown. It cost me $10 to park there! Apparently you have to pay at Altona too now. The kids and I usually catch public transport but Mr Peeler was coming along and he isn't great with PT, mostly refuses to use it and prefers to drive everywhere. The beach itself was as average as I remember. I stubbed my toe on a rock and fell over, grazing my hand on another rock. There were some sea creatures and mussels of interest to Miniest (it makes her day to see a little crab or two). Now washing all the towels and togs πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I'll be honest, I'm just posting this to see how Boost is at text editing. It was my only problem with Jerboa. Seems good. Huzzahs!
